Rod and Wheel House offers very comfortable holiday accommodation in Lumsden - a friendly country town nestled within deer, sheep and dairy farms. Lumsden is situated on the lower part of South Island of New Zealand and is surrounded by aqua blue rivers and lakes set in magnificent scenery.

The fully renovated, self contained house combines warm rimu wood finishes with modern conveniences.The house is private and surrounded by gardens and hedges. It is conveniently located some 5 minutes walk from shops and restaurants.

Southland is one of New Zealand's brown trout strongholds. Fly fishing for these large fish is one of the most popular tourist activities in the local area. Trying to outwit, outplay and outlast these sporting fish attracts angling enthusiasts from all around the globe

The house also provides very agreeable accommodation for families or friends who are travelling in Southland and interested in the many varied sporting, sightseeing and adventure pursuits offered in this spectacular part of New Zealand.

Lumsden sits halfway along the new bicycle trail called "The Around the Mountains Rail Trail" which winds through towering mountains and beside clear streams. The trail follows old railway easements offering low grades through some of New Zealand's most beautiful scenery.

The house is managed by a House Manager who lives nearby. She will organise keys and is available to answer any questions about how to use appliances or about the town and region. The house is only rented to one party whether the booking needs 1 bedroom or all 4. The manager and owner are happy to answer questions about activities in the area especially about trout fishing, walking, cycling or sight-seeing. Fishing rods are not available at the house but can be purchased for a very reasonable cost at least 2 shops in Lumsden. Rods and waders can also be hired at the local fly fishing shop.

    How do damage deposits work?

    In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.
