From the owner

Greenbank is a charming Grade C listed Victorian house positioned for a superb view over the head of the loch. The large half-acre garden extends west towards the loch and up the hill towards the mountains. This private garden is festooned with mature shrubs and trees and provides hiding places for children and is a good spot for a close encounter with grouse, red squirrel and deer. Nestled between the mountains and the loch every window offers stunning views. Inside has been thoughtfully refurbished and equipped to a high standard in 2013. Located within the village, the grocery, post office and pubs are within 2 minutes walk. Lochgoilhead is a hidden gem in the heart of the Argyll Forest. When you tire of climbing, fishing, boating, sight-seeing and walking the endless forest trails, relax in front of a real fire and make use of the free WiFi or play one of our many board games. If you prefer to go out, there are two bars and a good restaurant within walking distance.

Minimum stay is 4 nights over a weekend or 3 nights midweek. During peak periods, the minimum stay is 7 nights.

We respond, usually within an hour or two to all enquiries.

** HolidayLettings / TripAdvisor pricing alert **

If you are looking at this without having given dates, you will see a misleading "price per night". Please ignore it. TripAdvisor insists on showing the lowest possible price which, in this case, is the incremental one night rate for adding a WEEKNIGHT to a stay in November. If you enter dates, then you should see the correct price for your stay!

Response from the owner
Thank you for your very detailed feedback. We do like to hear from our guests and that’s the reason we leave a feedback form on the sitting room table. So we know, at changeover time, what is not quite right and what needs attention. I couldn’t find any reviews mentioning Greenbank as cold. I think you may be remembering ‘the house is cold’ from our very long and detailed email, sent at enquiry time, and before booking. In this email we lay out all the idiosyncrasies of Greenbank, a house which is nearly 200 years old. We warn everyone who enquires that the house may be chilly on arrival in winter and they will need to light the fires to supplement the radiator heating. We say the heating in the house will never generate T-shirt conditions in winter and we want potential guests to realise this .Our neighbours very kindly came in, before your arrival, to light the kitchen stove so we hope that helped. It's good to know that you made full use of the unlimited fuel provided and were able to make the house quite comfy. We are keen home cooks ourselves so we try hard to anticipate what guests might need in the kitchen during their stay. You will have found a wide range of trays including roasting trays of different sizes, quiche tins, pizza trays, a bread loaf and a cake tin (plus cake stand because we know guests come to celebrate birthdays). However, you are right, there are no bun/yorkshire pudding tins and we are sorry this was disappointing. We hope you were able to improvise and perhaps cook your yorkshire pudding in the old fashioned way: in a roasting tin. As you say this issue is easily sorted and will be. Ditto a toast rack. Our usual worry about pricing is that we are too cheap compared to similar (sleeps 9/10) self catering properties in the village. Their prices range from £2500 - 5300 at peak times for 10 days although not all give the option of a 10 night stay. The cost of your stay for 10 days over the Christmas and New Year period was £2357. So we do feel we are competitively priced. Always we aim to provide affordable and great value stays for 10 people. We know we get some things spot on. We provide a dining room table that seats 10 comfortably, for those all important get together meals, the kitchen is huge with a small table and 4 chairs so it’s a social space as well as functional, a large utility room and front porch for outdoor gear (and a dryer in case it’s needed) and 4 bathrooms to minimise queues in the morning. We know we can’t get everything perfect all the time and feel a bit sad that you expected a little better for the price. Regretfully, as in many old cottages, the floors slope in rooms but we will look again at how we can make furniture more level. As you say we are always readily available on the end of the phone and by email. Thank you for the feedback and the photos on Google Maps. What gorgeous blue skies complimented the view from the doorstep. Regards Amanda

Thank you Sarah for this very comprehensive review which will help future guests. Apologies for the hot water situation, there should have been oodles. Obviously something has gone wrong and we are looking into it. We understand that since reopening, post pandemic, the Goil Inn has had some chef issues. So any potential guest reading this, please check out their latest TripAdvisor reviews to see if the food has improved. We are really pleased you enjoyed the area and your stay at Greenbank! You don't have to wait until the next big birthday before coming back!
