The cortijo of Finca al-manzil is in the magical Sierra de Montanchez, Extremadura, a wonderful part of Spain with plenty to see and do. This is a unique property full of character, please see reviews.

A perfect summer holiday, spring break or winter retreat for families, friends or couples. There are lovely views over the olive groves or up to the spectacular peaks of the sierra. Decorated with great care, a mixture of simple, good quality design with antique and ethnic furnishing, plenty of books for a good read on the patios and terraces. Bedrooms all en-suite, one with roof terrace, perfect for sunny breakfasts or star gazing. The swimming pool is situated in a natural curve of the mountains, surrounded by trees and shrubs, it has a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere with stunning views of mountains and olive groves.

Walk directly into the Sierra on ancient Moorish paths, nature is a delight at any season especially Bird Watching with many rare species on the finca including an eagle owl. The walk to our local village of Montanchez takes 40 mins on a delightful path through the natural scenery of the sierra.There is also a great 3 hour walk up the watermill gorge, over the mountain and into Montanchez.

There are 4 World Heritage towns within 40kms: Caceres, Trujillo, Guadalupe and Merida, fascinating to explore, great night life and shopping. Horse riding, biking, and hiking from the finca. I have only just noticed this review and feel it very necessary to respond. The family of 3 who stayed at the cortijo in July 2014 left some very flattering remarks in my guest book so this review is even more mysterious. They seemed perfectly happy and did not say a negative word about the cortijo or the finca. By the way, as to the reference of an expensive holiday, they did in fact get a discount as there were only 3 and not 6. We had many friendly chats and provided them with bikes (never actually used as they alway got up so late, of course it was too hot to do anything by 11.00) I think they were unsuited to a hot summer and not prepared to adapt their timetable to accommodate the climate. A pity that they don't seem to have reaped the full glory of an Extremadura summer, early rising to enjoy the cool mornings, a cool siesta in the afternoon and looking forward to long balmy starry nights.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If Philippa (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
