Rufus Cottage is the perfect place for couples and families to enjoy the New Forest. It is located within the National Park, 2 1/2 miles from Lyndhurst, and is perfect for walking or cycling. Close to Longdown Activity Farm (1.5Km), The New Forest Wildlife Centre (2.5Km), Paultons Park Theme Park with Peppa Pig World (7Km) or New Forest Golf Course (3Km) and a very long list of other attractions and activities..Walks or cycle rides on the forest start at the door of the cottage.The house is warm and cosy, with a small patio with BBQ and furniture for summertime dining outside. The kitchen is well equipped and smartly decorated. There is a desk in the study and some games for rainy days.If you don't want to drive or take a car on holiday this is the perfect spot. Get the train from Waterloo to Ashurst New Forest and walk the 50 yards to the house.If you don't want to cook the pub is 30 yards away, and a bistro and another pub are at a short walk.Whether you are enjoying cycling, walking, golfing, tennis or other activities. or simply chilling out, Rufus Cottage is a comfortable place to stay for a relaxing week or more.The property has two bedrooms (one double, one twin), two bathrooms and a day bed for a 5th guest if necessary.We are on the open topped bus route, so our guests can travel around the forest getting on and off as they wish; returning to the cottage without taking the car out. The cottage is more than 100 years old and the staircase has a 90 degree turn which requires care navigating. This is our third year of holiday rental and the reviews and feedback we have had from our guests have been very positive.

Only 89 minutes from Waterloo on the fast train.

Please note that we generally can't do Saturday changeovers.

I live less than a mile from Rufus cottage so I am generally available if you would like any information or have a problem. However I don't see most of our guests. The key is left in a key safe so you can arrive at any time. If you are travelling with infants there is a travel cot and high chair in the cottage. Please let me know if you want the cot put up.

Beautiful cottage, lovely and clean on arrival and we even managed to access the cottage earlier. Cottage was in a fantastic location in the new forest. Close to many attractions.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send David (the owner) a message.

If David (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
