Beautiful, rustic, well maintained 12th century medieval house in the vibrant village of Le Pouget in the stunning Languedoc region of southern France. Perfectly located to explore the region, Cloche-Piochet is a half hours drive from Montpellier, St Guilhelm le Desert, Sete, sandy beaches, and not much more than an hours drive from the Pont du Gard, Nimes historic colosseum, Carcassone and the Canal du Midi to name a few. French food at its best, local wines, beautiful villages nearby and very friendly locals will make your stay memorable.
As you enter Cloche-Piochet you will immediately be transported back in time as you peek into the ground floor 'cave' double bedroom before ascending the original medieval staircase to the light and airy first floor kitchen/living area with it's hundreds year old roman floor tiles and ancient stone walls. The kitchen is well equipped so you can cook up a storm with the irresistible local fresh produce, or heat up the plat du jour gourmet takeaway that the village butcher's wife cooks up each morning.
The old world ambience continues as you head upstairs to the second floor twin bedroom with its pretty little stain glass window and adjacent toilet and bathroom. Finally, what many of our guests over the years have called the 'view to die for' is at the top of the last small staircase. There, you'll walk through the attic bedroom that opens out onto the petit terrace that looks out over miles of surrounding villages, vineyards and beautiful french countryside. The terrace is a wonderful place to relax after a hard day's sightseeing with a cold glass of local wine, an array of gorgeous french cheese and whatever else takes your fancy. Watch the sun go down as you linger on for dinner, or head back out in the morning to enjoy your morning coffee and croissants still warm from the village patisserie.
People have lived at Le Pouget for at least 35,000 years and probably for much longer and the village as it stands today is of medieval origin. It is a classic hilltop circulade with houses on narrow cobbled streets circling a central church and churchyard. Today Le Pouget is a vibrant village of approximately a thousand friendly locals. It has a weekly market, two restaurants, a bar, two well stocked epicierie's, a butcher, baker, tabac and more.
Le Pouget is located close to the towns of Clermont l'Herault, Gignac and Pezenas bustling with their great weekly markets and variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. The nearby village of Canet (3km) provides access to the clear, cool waters of the Herault river and it's popular local swimming spot. Le Pouget is ideally located to explore the very scenic Herault valley, from its Mediterranean swimming beaches to its majestic mountains and many beautiful villages, valleys and vineyards in between.
