Spectacular historic beach villa, recently refurbished and outdoor pool, Jacuzzi and barbecue area added. We have an inverter, so the elelctrictiy stays on! La Gratitude has the best location in Hermanus, being the closest house to Grotto beach in Voelklip. Yet the house enjoys splendid seclusion, being built on 3000 square meters of gently sloping grass rimmed by indigenous vegetation. Its generous proportions can sleep a maximum of 10 people comfortably. It is seaside home of one of the Cape’s most historically prominent families, La Gratitude offers superb, understated luxury with unsurpassed, uninterrupted views across Walker Bay. Situated just steps away from both secluded coves and a 12 km stretch of pristine beach. The cliff path begins meters from the the house and follows the bay round to Hermanus village. The interior is designed in the simple luxurious elegance of a by-gone age. There is a thoroughly modern kitchen with all conveniences, as well as two sitting rooms, with Satellite TV, DVD, VCR, and music system

There is a 2 week minimum booking over Easter and 3 weeks over Christmas or New Year, although other requests will be considered.

Non refundable 50% deposit required to confirm vacation rentals over Christmas and New year. For the rest of the year a 50% deposit is required to make a booking. This 50% deposit becomes non-refundable 30 days prior to arrival date. The balance of payment and a R6000 refundable deposit is required 2 weeks before booking date. The R6000 deposit will be returned less any breakages, phone usage etc within 30 days of departure. NO SHOWS AND CANCELLATIONS WITHIN 48HRS WILL BE CHARGED THE FULL RATE.

A daily 4 hour maid service is provided with the rental. If you have other requirments for extra help, we will try and help you set these up. We can also help you with local information, such as putting you intouch with drivers, a fauna and flora expert to take you on guided walk or a tour guide.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I ask all guests booking the house at La Gratitude to call me right away if there are any problems at the house. During your stay I was told by La Gratitude's housekeeper that the washing machine was not working properly. I had it and the dishwasher (for good measure) replaced right away. On all 4 occasions I called the house to check that everything was OK, the male guest(s) I spoke to assured me that it was and there was nothing else that needed attention or was a problem. The toaster was a mistake and should not have been there, for which I apologise. It was an old back up one, which I had replaced, by a usual 4 piece good quality toaster the minute I heard the previous one had been broken. La Gratitude's house keeper should have called me right away about the toaster, but unfortunately did not, for which I apologise. This matter has been talked through with her. Since your stay, we have installed curtains with block out on all the bedroom windows to ensure that no-one else finds the bedrooms too light - despite this not being reported to me by other guests for 7 years of letting out the house. The floors are old oregon pine and can look dirty even after being washed once the varnish is off. We have had the floors sanded and revarnished this winter and done a lot of maintenance to the historic house. I am confident that no other guest will have the same experience that you had,particularly if they call me right away to notify me of any problems as soon as they are identified. It is so disappointing to be told about difficulties after guests have left only, so it is not possible to correct them. Thank you all the same for bringing your concerns to my attention. Simon

Why can't I call Simon (the owner) before booking?

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I cancel my booking?

Go to Manage your holiday booking to cancel your booking. Here you can view your cancellation policy to see if you’ll be refunded.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Simon (the owner) a message.

If Simon (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
