Podere Agrituristico Luchiano is set in the heart of a beautiful area of Southern Umbria, unknown to most tourists, which extends between the rivers Tiber and Nera. Crossed by old Roman roads, this fascinating and authentic place, named Comprensorio Amerino, is very rich in nature, culture and traditions. First of all Amelia, the most ancient mediaeval town of the Umbrian peoples, is worth visiting for its limestone polygonal walls (3rd cent. BC) as well as for its different churches, the marvellous historic palaces and the Roman Cistern.
The estate is located between Amelia (5 km) and Lugnano in Teverina (5 km) and lies on a small hill at 450 m above sea level and offers a stunning panoramic view over the hills and the valleys all around. Surrounded by the large garden and the olive grove of around 2,000 trees, the typical Umbrian estate of the 17th century still preserves its unique original threshing floor built with hand-made bricks, used by local farmers for threshing grain by hand until some decades ago.
Spending a holiday at Luchiano means breathing the air of tranquillity and serenity of times past, when time went by slowly and the contact with nature and its fruits was of primary importance for life. The atmosphere here is hospitable and friendly, ideal for relaxing and tasting the farm’s typical local products, such as extra virgin olive oil, olives in brine, honey, as well as season fruits and vegetables. Chickens, geese, dogs and cats will welcome you, as well. The family, owners of the agriturismo, speak Italian, English and German and personally welcome you to make you feel at home!
Luchiano is also a perfect base for walking and cycling. If you like excursions, an Environmental Excursion-Guide will accompany you on tours of different length and difficulty, including, for example, Mounts Sibillini. Lovers of beauty and wellness, instead, can choose among the different treatment packages offered on spot in collaboration with the Professional Wellness Centre of Amelia.
The estate is ideally situated for touring the area being close to a wealth of charming towns such as Todi, Orvieto, Narni, Spoleto, the Marmore Waterfalls and Bomarzo (Park of Monsters), and within easy reach, by road (one hour) or rail (1 and a half hour), of Rome, Perugia and Assisi, the town of St. Francis.

Products
Podere Agrituristico Luchiano offers local specialities such as extra-virgin olive oil, flower honey and green table olives in brine. These products are produced and processed at the estate and directly sold to the consumers.
Extra-virgin olive oil
Luchiano extra-virgin olive oil is obtained from about 2,000 olive trees. The olive grove is planted with Leccino, Frantoio and Morraiolo, varieties produced and selected by the nursery of C.N.R. in Perugia.
The olives are picked in the very first days of November, earlier than is usual. As a result the fruit is rich of chlorophyll and therefore maintains a low acidity level. At the oil-mill, the olives are processed by the traditional method of cold pressing, which is the best method to obtain high quality -extra virgin- oil.
Flower honey
The hives are placed in an optimal position on a travertine platform, sheltered from the wind. In June and September the honey is removed from the combs by centrifugation in the honey extractor. The honey has an intense perfume of broom and tastes soft, round and velvety.
Green Table Olive in Brine
The Ascolana olives, obtained from about 100 trees, are very big, dull green and fleshy olives. They are harvested in 3 subsequent rounds in October, to achieve perfect ripeness.
The olives are processed without chemical treatments; they are just preserved in slightly salty water during the first 20-30 days, until the water becomes clear; then they are washed with successive brine baths to remove the bitterness that is typical of the fresh fruit.
The olives can be tasted in June-July of the year following the harvest. They are called "olive all'acqua" (olives in water) or "olive del mietitore" (reaper's olives), the latter name indicating the season of degustation.
