'Walk with Donkeys' is a sanctuary for old, neglected and previously abused donkeys. We also have a few horses, dogs and cats. We offer a breathtaking experiencce in this beautiful 4 metre round cotton tent, situated amongst the rocks in a secluded position above the Sanctuary. Guests need to be able to climb the home made stone steps up into the camping area. It is not suitable for very young children or people with walking difficulties as the sandy soil can be slippery and access to the tent and area is uphill.
It is perfect for watching birds. Ravens swoop over the rocks, Griffon Vultures glide past and there are numerous smaller birds. There is no light pollution so star watching from here is amazing. The tent is thick cotton so it is breathable and with 2 big doors with mosquito nets and 2 large netted windows, it is extremely well ventilated.
The back door opens onto a wooden decked area perfect for sitting out, drinking your morning coffee and listening to the song birds.
Although this is an 'off grid' experience there is limited power in the tent for a bedside light and to firm up your airbed if necessary and for recharging phones. We DO NOT HAVE POWER for hair dryers or other power thirsty implements. Please do not try to use them or you will fuse the whole solar system!
If you like being 'at one' with nature, you will love it here. Be prepared to be serenaded by the donkeys horse and dogs when you wake up.
There are dogs and cats loose on the premises but we do not allow them into the tent.
Adjacent to the main tent there is a spacious shower tent with camping toilet and hand pumped solar shower. Please be careful to use water wisely.
A Breakfast hamper is provided and guests can make tea and coffee with the hot water dispenser in the tent. If you would like to have a non-meat dinner this can be arranged when booking at an extra cost. Certainly this is the best idea to eat by moonlight overlooking the sea and will add to the whole experience.
Meeting the animals is a 'must do' experience and we can show you around the sanctuary and introduce you. Although there is no entrance fee we do appreciate a donation to help us with funding this charity.
A guided walk around the sanctuary is available, with or without a donkey companion. This can be arranged when booking or when you arrive.
The tent is fitted out with a queen (UK king size) raised air bed and a big single raised air bed and cotton sheets. There would be room for floor mattresses for children.
