Description from owner

Description

Shakespeare Lodge is a charming self-contained 2 bedroom unit with an additional studio which counts as a third bedroom. We rent the lodge and studio together as a package however, we do charge an extra 30€ a night for parties larger than 4 people. This gives greater flexibility; a party of four for example pays less than a party of six because the studio is not used. The ensemble is part of a typical farmhouse construction in Anjou, located 250 kms southwest of Paris and 30 kms north of the historic city of Angers. Your hosts live in the eastern barn wing of the house, however your privacy is ensured by a separate entrance and courtyard for outdoor relaxation. The property is perfect for golfers, with Anjou Golf & Country Club next door (3kms); for visits to the renown Lion d'Angers (15 minutes drive) equestrian events and of course, for use as a base from which to visit local castles and gardens as well as those further afield in the Loire valley. English spoken.

Getting around

The important thing is to anticipate your shopping. Our local supermarkets (Super U in Champigné, Tiercé, Chateauneuf and Cocci market in Cheffes) are open until 7.30pm. There are a few restaurants in our area, but the nearest sushi takeaway is in Angers! The lovely local fresh fruit and vegetable markets take place in Champigné on Tuesday morning, Tiercé on Wednesday morning and Chateauneuf on Friday morning. We are blessed with fantastic boulangeries in Champigné and Cheffes.

Interaction with guest

We always welcome our guests and give a quick tour of the house and grounds. We know weary travellers can't wait to get the bags inside and relax so we try to be as efficient as possible about this. I'm happy to provide tourist information prior to your visit and if you have particular areas of interest such as history, the arts, or even aviation (our local museum is just fabulous) don't hesitate to ask.

“5 star”

Reviewed 12 Aug 2016

On holiday with daughter, son in law and 2 grandchildren. Everyone had a most enjoyable time. Accommodation was first class especially the studio which we had. Ann-Louise was an exceptionally nice person and was very helpful. We all loved the pool and extensive grounds especially the table tennis. The local village was lovely with a nice river flowing through it. My son in law went fishing in the river and caught quite a few fish. We hope to return and I can thoroughly recommend it

Response from the owner Thank you so much. We would be honoured to welcome you again!

“Beautiful, secluded gite in the French countryside”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2015

This is probably the best gite we have ever stayed in. Beautifully furnished and in a lovely, peaceful setting, but not far from local amenities. It is an ideal base to explore the local chateaux, vineyards and waterways in this part of the Loire Valley. Ann-Louise was extremely helpful and provided us with lots of local information. We would definitely recommend this gite and hope to go back ourselves in the future.

“Relaxing, quiet and beautiful.”

Beautiful house set in the heart of the countryside. Ann-Louise and Francois were very welcoming and have thought of everything one could need on holiday, the house is so well equipped. We enjoy amazing peace and quiet and would recommend this gite absolutely.

“Excellent Stay”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2015

2nd time visiting Shakespeare Lodge and yet again we were not disappointed. Would highly recommend for anyone who wants a well equipped, spacious property with use of a private pool in a quiet location.
