Armathwaite Castle is a four-storey Pele Tower, and the 15th century church has stained glass windows. The Eden Gorge, between Lazonby and Armathwaite is worth exploring. The railway station is a stop on the Settle-to-Carlisle Railway, a beautiful journey. The Rheged Discovery Centre in Penrith is the "largest grass covered building in the country" or you might like to visit Dalemain Historic House, featured in a television production of Jane Eyre.
