From the owner

Planetrees Estate is a rare find for those seeking a truly special break away.

Beautifully appointed, luxury accommodation is set within a magnificent, five-acre European-style garden at the foothills of Victoria’s High Country, just 8kms from the historic Beechworth and central to Victoria’s coveted NE wine and gourmet food region.

Stylish and sensitively conceived it is a realisation of the vision of the passionate architect owner. Choose between a self-catering experience in a unique log-and-earth, eco-Lodge that sleeps up to 8 – 10 or the romantic Artists’ Suite that is perfect for two (up to four), located within a Tuscan-styled villa featuring cathedral ceilings, exposed beams and lavish furnishings.

The garden showcases a 16m natural swimming pool set within a lily-covered lake, giant chess, bocci court, 350 trees, an array of gloriously planted garden “rooms” with many rare species and plenty of open space to kick the football.

Planetrees expresses the marriage of designer luxury with pristine nature. This unparalleled retreat is tailored for groups of family, friends, colleagues and couples to melt away the pressures of daily life, to re-set the compass, re-energise, play and adventure, indulge your passions, and nurture your relationships.

Quick Tour

The Lodge, set out on two levels *, has generous open plan dining and living spaces and a fully fitting kitchen on ground level. A beautiful French timber table provides comfortable dining for 8 and outdoor covered dining for 10. The lounge area seats 8 comfortably on two sofas, two armchairs and has two extra ottomans.

Four generous bedrooms (two on each level) provide 3 king beds and a queen bed. All the king beds can be split to make twin-share rooms. There are two additional quality fold out single beds that can be set up on the large upper landing between two bedrooms. There is also a cot in one of the king bedrooms.

Each level has a full bathroom with toilet, shower and WC. There is a bath in the upper level bathroom, a third WC downstairs and a small laundry area.

*The ground level doors provide for almost level access without using the main stairs.

The Artists’ Suite provides level access and comprises three rooms; king bedroom, ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower and bath and a large living/dining room. A three-seater sofa and two arm chairs offer generous seating. There is a dining table for 4 and two optional fold out beds. The walls are hung with quality original artwork that is available for sale. Outdoor furniture is arranged on the terrace.

The five-acre garden featuring a 16m pool, bocci court and giant chess are shared by all guests.

Response from the owner
It was a great pleasure to host Sue and her family and friends for their anniversary weekend. I am delighted that you were comfortable and that you had all that you desired to make this a special weekend. In response to you comments regarding the pool - this is a natural pool integrated with a water garden that keeps the water pristine clear and clean without relying heavily on chemicals. Plant sediment does collect on the bottom over time but that is 2m below the swimmers so is not usually a cause for concern. As part of our daily service of the pool the "creepy-crawly" is cleaned and put on every day to pick up any loose and floating matter and skimmer baskets pick up any other matter floating on the surface. Over time some of the organic residue collects on the floor of the pool and becomes solid and bound to the pool liner. We regard that as part of the natural look of the pond and we do not expect or desire that the pool floor to look like a conventional chemical pool. Natural pools, hugely popular in Europe and America, are a relatively new experience in Australia and not always well understood. But we are always delighted to explain the system to our guests and enjoy the thrill and enjoyment so many have in experiencing this beautiful natural swim surrounded by lillies, reeds and water plants. I look forward to welcome you again and hope that next time you will take the opportunity to enjoy a swim also. Best wishes. Genevieve
