Description from owner

Description

Shraigh Hill is situated five miles (7 minutes drive) from the town of Belmullet and one mile from the village of Glencastle. The property is built to a superbly high standard, individually designed and set on an unrivalled site with a 270 degree sea view, overlooking Claggen Island, the Atlantic and Achill Island.

This is one of the most traditional and friendly rural areas in the whole Ireland. Belmullet town has a host of shops, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets and bike hire etc. whilst Geesala and Bangor Erris are within 10 min drive and offer supermarket, petrol stations and pubs.

Fishing

Shore fishing is particularly good all round the area. Miles of accessible coastline and almost deserted beaches guarantee the amateur or professional fisherman perfect peace. With over 50 varieties of fish known to inhabit the waters off the shores of Belmullet, the sea-angler is also well rewarded with the best all-round sea angling waters in Ireland. The Belmullet Sea Angling Club run a number of open competitions during the year.

For golfing enthusiasts Carne Golf Club is a class of its own and was voted one of the top ten links courses in the whole of Europe. This exciting links course, with a natural setting of incomparable beauty, was designed by Eddie Hackett around splendid sand dunes on ancient commonage. The elevated tees and plateau greens exploit the beauty, while the deceptive dog-legs and lurking bunkers will punish the careless shot.

Members and non-members are welcome.

For surfers and kitesurfers Shraigh beach is beautiful, safe and welcoming, whilst for those seeking peace and relaxation this is one of the most idyllic spots in the region.

Further details indoors

Wooden floors, solid fuel stove, every modern appliance, fantastic kitchen with belfast sink and sea views, incredible conservatory with vaulted ceiling and full length chapel windows to make the most of the view, cosy yet elegant living room, master bedroom en suite, plus 2 separate bathrooms. To get a real taste of Ireland, with its turf fires, traditional music, great Guinness, fantastic scenery and a warm Irish welcome, make sure you head to Belmullet, Co Mayo, it's the best in the West!Shraigh beach is a 2 minute drive or 10 minute stroll away and you will often have the whole of this glorious beach to yourself, with its crystal clear waters and beautiful white sands. Carne Golf Club is 8 miles from the property and the nearest airport is Knock airport. The house is also fully equipped for anyone who has young children, i.e. cot, buggy, high chair and a selection of children's toys.

(Please note, we offer full refund of all booking deposits cancelled over one month in advance of arrival date. After that we still will if we can find an alternative guest, if not we can't I'm afraid, as particularly for peak season this would make it highly unlikely to be able to find an alternative guest, thanks!)

“Simply Beautiful”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2018

Spent a week at this beautiful location with my daughter and family and we were blessed with sunshine. The house was really spacious and had everything we needed and the sunsets from the sun lounge were something to behold. My 2 grand-daughters had great time playing in the garden, not to mention the magnificent beach which they had to themselves most days and is overlooked by the house and just a few minutes drive away.I would recommend to anyone that wants a nice relaxing family holiday in a beautiful house with wonderful scenery.

Response from the owner Hi John, Thank you for such lovely words, we're delighted to hear you had such a great time! I know we're biased but when the sun shines, there is no place like it! And when it doesn't, it's still great.. have a safe journey home, and we hope to welcome you to Erris again in the future. Paul

The area was beautiful and the people are so friendly! We are already discussing our next trip! We would Highly recommend this place to everyone!!

“Home from home”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2016

This is the perfect accommodation for friends or family to get away from it all or just get together. The house is ideally named, as the views of the island and beach are fantastic. As well as the four bedrooms and three bathrooms, you are spoiled for living accommodation and a fantastic sun room to watch the sun going down. The owners made us feel so welcome. Will definitely be going back.

Response from the owner HI Malachy, thanks so much for the great review and for choosing Island View House, we really appreciate it. Look forward to welcoming you again in future, all the best, Paul

“Fantastic location to explore Erris”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2014

We stayed at island view house in early June and the weather was lovely, helping to make the gorgeous views from the house look like something from a brochure. The house itself had everything you could think of and more. Paul we would like you to thank your mum, dad and aunt rose for making us feel so welcome. We will definitely try to book island view house again when we return to Belmullet

Response from the owner Dear Peter, thank you so much for the lovely review and for choosing Island View House, we really appreciate it! I will send on your best wishes to all and hope to welcome you again in the future, many thanks Paul

“Utterly splendid”

Reviewed 6 Nov 2012

Amazing views from the house and surrounding areas. House is perfect for what we needed. Elderly mum loved the peace and she thought it was great to have bathroom and bedroom on the ground floor, and she loved rifling through the book shelves! Toys and books in the house also kept the kids (3 and 5) entertained. Apparently there's a great european golf course nearby but I don't like golf, which is a shame! Massive empty beaches were great for the kids to run about on, as well as for the dog, and I personally loved the great walks and nature trails, as did my wife. We'll be going back. Weather can't be guaranteed but it is the west coast of Ireland after all. If you strike it lucky it's amazing, and even if you don't it's still great. PS The welcome pack was a lovely touch!!

Response from the owner Thank you Pietro, as our first Italian guests it was a pleasure to meet you all, hope to see you in Belmullet for a Guinness in the future, slan.

“quality time together”

Reviewed 6 Nov 2012

The house was a bit larger than we really required, but the location and space both internally and surrounding convinced us it was worth the money. If travelling with kids or family take plenty of activities, stay for two weeks not one, and hope for good weather!

Response from the owner Wow, many thanks for the great review, hope to see you again in 2015! Paul

“The perfect space for my extended family”

Reviewed 23 Oct 2012

A beautiful, comfortable home to stay in while visiting for a wedding. We had peaceful walks on the beach, and stunning sunsets to enjoy while we sat and talked into the night in the cozy family room off the huge kitchen. I would absolutely stay here again. Paul was a most gracious host, and having his Dad right across the road was a comfort if we needed anything. Fantastic time in Belmullet!

Response from the owner Hi Katie, thank you so much for your kind words, hope to see you back in Belmullet some day, all the best..
