From the manager

Our bay house is just steps from the bay. But off of the main roads. Great views of the bay and a quiet walkable street. Just updated with modern rustic decor. The living room has a nice open floor plan that opens up to expansive views of the bay and surrounding hills. The front balcony is the center piece of the house. Relax and enjoy the bay. The house is arguable in the most wind protected location in all of the Bodega Bay.

1. WOOD STOVE-

The home is heated with a wood stove. The best way to start the fire is to close the fireplace doors after lighting your fire, leaving the air vents all the way open. I find a log cabin method the best with paper in the middle, kindling on top and the logs arranged in a box shape, open in the front surrounding the paper and kindling. There is extra firewood outside in the back of the house. The firewood near the house is for the inside and the firewood by the trees is for the outside fire pit.

We also try to provide Firestarter Sticks for novice fire makers:) These work best by first placing 2 or so sticks directly underneath your log formation and then lighting them.

2. WIFI-

The wifi network name and password are on the router in the kitchen.

3. LOCK BOX-

The key is in the lock box. We will give you the code a few days prior to your arrival.

4. COUCH BED-

*Please use the mattress protector and sheets if using as a bed.

*If you'd prefer to have the bed made up for you before arrival, just send us a message ahead of time.

The sofa converts into a full/queen bed (Ikea Friheten). First remove all the pillows, then pull up and out on the strap on bottom middle. Mattress cover, sheets, blanket, pillows, comforter are inside. Then flip the back down towards you to finish the conversion. Please leave out used bedding at the end of your stay.

5. DRIVEWAY-

The driveway is steep and gravel, so it is best to get a running start. You can also park across the road on the flats which is our property as well.

6. COFFEE-

There is a pour over coffee making system with no filter required, a french press, or 12 cup electric coffee maker. We provide organic medium roast coffee beans, a grinder, filters, organic sugar, and usually half and half. Please dump your used coffee grounds in the black trash can under the sink and rinse out the filter in the sink when done.

7. WATER FILTER-

We provide an Aquagear water pitcher for filtered water. It filters out 99.9% chlorine, chloramine, flouride, and many other toxins, better than a Britta filter. We chill a few glass bottles of filtered water in the fridge for your use as well, please leave the bottles.

8. TOASTER OVEN- (NO MICROWAVE)

When making toast or heating items in the toaster oven, you will need to set the top temperature dial and then also the bottom timer dial.

9. CONDIMENTS-

We provide basic condiments like ketchup, mustard, relish, salt, pepper, thyme, and a variety of spice/garlic/pepper mixes, and usually avocado oil for high-heat cooking.

Leave the key in the lock-box and lock the door behind you.

DISHES-

Please either wash and dry your dishes by hand or leave them to air dry on the drying mat next to the sink, or start the dishwasher when you leave. There is a wash tub under the sink and extra dish towels and sponges in the small drawer to the right of the sink.

TOWELS-

Please leave used wet bath towels hanging on the rack above the toilet.

SOFA BED-

If the sofa bed was utilized, please leave out used bedding.

BROOM-

A general sweep up is appreciated if you bring back a lot of sand from the beach. The red broom is located in the corner by the door.

ACCIDENTS AND SPILLS-

We totally understand that accidents happen. If anything breaks, stains etc. during your stay please just let us know so we can take care of it. There are extra cleaning rags in the kitchen, bottom left drawer against the wall.

And finally please just do your best to leave the place as you found it. We usually clean with a young toddler in tow which can sometimes take the full 4 hour turnover between check-out and check-in. Thank you for understanding:) Thanks for booking with us and enjoy!

So sorry about the fire. We determined the problem. Our cleaning person was not cleaning out the ash. She has promised to clean it out every time now. In addition we purchased wood from a new supplier that is easier to light. Also we just purchased three space heaters as back up in case this ever happens again. They are all controlled by thermostat and should be very effective. There is nothing I can do about the wires but I am planning on trimming the tree even more to increase the view. Our convenience stores, Pelican Plaza deli and Diekmans do have the basics of most food stuffs. In addition there are two fish markets one and the Tides and one at Lucas wharf, if you want to buy seafood and cook it at home. We do have a fully stocked kitchen and BBQ and encourage our guests to utilize them. Thanks for choosing to stay with us!

We are so sorry you were unable to start a fire. We will be adding fire starter sticks to the fire starting supplies to make it easier for people to start fires. We tried to make it clear in the listing that the fireplace is the heat source in the house. As for the discolored water, The bodega bay utility district has issues with sediment in their water supply from time to time. It is not dangerous, it is basically fine sand. We are looking into getting a whole house sediment filter. A considerable expense, but we are in the planning phase of doing that. We are considering adding some electric heaters but have not found a suitable option. Other quests have been fine with the fireplace as the heat source and actually find it preferable, soothing and romantic. The fireplace heats up the house great, when you use it. Also, if for some reason, you run out of paper, there are 5 restaurants with free paper, and 2 stores within 1 mile that carry inexpensive fire starters and kindling. How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If the property manager agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
