From the owner

Nestled on the banks of the River Camel, Kingfisher Cabin is the ideal Cornish rural retreat for couples, small families or friends. Cosy up in front of the log burner after a day exploring the many nearby fishing villages and beaches. Enjoy woodland walks on our private estate with direct access to the Camel Trail. Listen to the sounds of the river from your bed at our idyllic location on the River Camel. Walking distance to pub, tea room and Vineyard. Just 10 miles from Padstow on the Camel Trail.

TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence. Airbnb Superhost.

Kingfisher Cabin is a one bedroom wooden lodge with breathtaking views across the Camel Valley, River Camel and the Camel Valley Vineyards.

Kingfisher Cabin is in a wonderfully peaceful, secluded and private spot featuring a double aspect balcony which is a fantastic sun trap and a private garden with picnic table and BBQ.

An idyllic rural location just 20 minutes from the Eden Project, Lanhydrock National Trust property and numerous beaches and fishing villages.

Explore our 40 acre private estate encountering exceptional wildlife and rare birds such as the resident kingfishers, otters, roe deer and woodpecker. The woodland is a carpet of bluebells and wild garlic in the spring and don't be surprised to find our small flock of Jacob sheep grazing a stones throw from your garden gate.

Kingfisher Cabin has a comfortable super king-size bed which can also be converted to two standard size twin beds and there is room for a travel cot or extra single bed for small families. The modern bathroom has a shower over bath, heated towel rail and underfloor heating. There is a generous sized, open-planned kitchen, dining area and lounge with two sets of french doors opening out onto the balcony. The kitchen is fully equipped including oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washing machine. There is also a large airing cupboard. The lounge area has a comfortable sofa and armchair, iPod dock, log burner and log store are at your disposal for a cosy and comfortable stay. Modern "smart TV" with integrated viewing apps including Netflix.

Please ask in advance if you need a travel cot or high-chair.

Kingfisher Cabin is one of 4 holiday cottages on the Butterwell Farm Estate. With 40 acres to explore it remains private, quiet and peaceful for our guests.

We have a unique location at Butterwell Farm with our own private stretch of the River Camel - one of the UK's top salmon and trout rivers. Contact us in advance for details about how you can reserve to fish our river.

We welcome with enthusiasm well-behaved dogs at Butterwell. A pet charge of £20 per dog per stay will be applied to your booking. We must insist on a few house rules to keep all of our resident guests and visiting wildlife safe and happy. Please keep your dog on a lead unless enclosed in your private garden. Please make sure you clean up after your dogs and place their bags inside a bin liner in your designated outside bins. Dogs are not permitted in the river due to spawning fish and other wildlife, unless in the ONLY designated area which is in front of Butterwell main house in between the two trees where the picnic bench is (still keeping your dog on the lead). Please do not leave your dogs inside the property unattended at any time. Dogs are not permitted in the bedrooms or on any furniture. Please try to remove dog hairs from carpets and rugs before your departure. Please do not use baths or showers to clean your dogs – there are outside hoses provided at all cottages. Please ensure your dogs are free from parasites and fleas before entering the property.

We are ideally located in Central Cornwall and the perfect base for exploring the whole of Cornwall with a host of nearby sandy beaches such as Polzeath, Constantine Bay, Newquay, Mawgan Porth, Rock, Harlyn, and Trevone. Or follow the Coastal Path and visit beautiful small villages like Tintagel, Port Isaac and Boscastle. Other nearby attractions include the Eden Project (9 miles), Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway (2 miles) and the Jamaica Inn. Nearby Bodmin Moor also offers a walkers paradise with its rugged beauty.

Bring your bicycles or hire them locally and roam along the adjacent famous Camel Trail (Wadebridge 4 miles and Padstow 9 miles) or explore the nearby adjoining forestry trails.

Much of our land is designated as An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and classified as a Site of Specific Scientific Interest (SSSI). We are home to otters, ducks, kingfishers and buzzards with some of the best sea trout and salmon fishing in Cornwall. Enjoy the beauty of our private nature trail in our private woodlands, and see the animals, birds and many unusual flowers in their natural environments.

Interaction with guest

We look forward to welcoming you at Kingfisher Cabin and telling you more about the local area We provide a welcome information pack and we're also more than happy to advise you about eating out, beaches, walks and other local attractions. Equally we understand some guests like to be left to their own devices and enjoy their privacy. We are very happy to be welcoming guests to this special part of Cornwall and we have been certified as “Good to Go” by Visit England, the National Tourist Board of England. At Butterwell we have been taking all possible steps to respond to the challenges that Covid-19 brings to us all. We have purchased a “fogger” which will disperse natural and eco-friendly anti-bacterial sanitiser across every surface
