From the owner

Guest rooms In a 240 square meter apartment, located in an 18th century townhouse in the historic city centre of Bordeaux.

The house is located in one of the oldest and most traditional districts of the city, where people can enjoy a great number of buildings that represent the essence of 18th century architecture, such as the one where I live.

The guest rooms are located on the first floor. As it was built in the 18th century, the interior design is based on the norms of that time, which I agree, differ somewhat from those of the 21st century.

The first guest room is equipped with a full size bed, two nightstands, a full-length closet, without an outside issue. The second guest room is equipped with a double-single bed (for 2 or 1+1), nightstand and a full-length closet. The bathroom is equipped with a shower stall, sink, and toilette.

A parking space is available should you arrive by car. Guests enjoy access to the terrace (120 M2) and its amenities (tables, chairs, etc.) at all hours. The kitchen is equipped with bar and stools, all cooking accessories, a full size refrigerator/freezer, and is available for breakfast and snacks throughout the day.

Prices are advertised for a one room of 2 people. It is necessary to count the same price for a second room and 30 euros per additional person in the large room with single beds.

The city is rich in history and historical sites, and not lacking in classic French restaurants and cafés as well as international cuisine. Bordeaux has been a classified UNESCO world heritage site for three years. On location you will find: museums, movie theatres, parks and gardens, golf and tennis courses, swimming pools, and Turkish baths.

The beltway and motorways are readily accessible from the apartment. Guests enjoy access to the terrace (180 M2) and its amenities (tables, chairs, etc.).

During peak season, a stay must be at least a minimum of three nights. For your stay, please be sure to notify me as to your approximate arrival time (no sooner than 5:00 o'clock PM) so your welcome can be planed accordingly.

Response from the owner
Dear Madam, I first wish to thank you for sharing your objective perception and constructive criticism following your visit in Bordeaux. I would like to point out a few things that may have slipped your attention. Considering the fact that you and your son arrived at my house at 22h40, I made sure to welcome you, give you the keys of the house and show you to your room. I am sorry for not waiting for your return home, as you went out for dinner; I hope you understand that fatigue did catch up with me after 23h. (1) As it was built in the 18th century, the interior design is based on the norms of that time, which I agree, differ somewhat from either those of the 21st century or those of an international hotel. The first staircase is equipped with automatic lights in order to facilitate the access to the building and the apartment. The latter is opening onto a small corridor; during daytime, it is lit by natural light coming from the terrace. The second corridor leads the way to the rooms on the first floor and grants access to the second floor. This first floor is equipped with an HVC unit as it’s at the heart of the building. (2) The balcony you are referring to, is in fact a fully equipped private terrace with table, chairs, and a garden filled with small trees and numerous plants. Access to the terrace has never been restricted to a specific timetable. And so is the access to the main living area (kitchen, living room, etc.). The many visitors I had the opportunity to welcome in my house, be they young or not, French or foreigners, have taken advantage of the setting, with or without my presence. My motto is that guests should be able to live their own life at their own rhythm. (3) If you had cat allergies, I would have appreciated to being made aware so the necessary precautions would have been put in place before your arrival; this would have been likely sufficient for avoiding any discomfort. I could have also informed you of a drugstore nearby that is open 24/7 and where you could have purchased antihistamine. (4) As mentioned on the website where the ad for the apartment is displayed, my house is located in one of the oldest and most traditional districts of the city, where people can enjoy a great number of buildings that represent the essence of 18th century architecture, such as the one where I live. I had the opportunity to welcome a fair number of tourists that appreciated this historical aspect as well as the authentic ambiance and the charm this area has to offer, such as the daily food and antiquity market that attract large crowds, not only the select connoisseur. This being said, the area favours a social and an ethnically mixed population. This area is cited as being one of the liveliest area in the city, where you can always find someone regardless of the hour and where lights are lit at night (just as any other area in Bordeaux). Finally, I apologise for the inconvenience you have experienced with the door handle. Despite of you leaving three days before the end of your reservation without informing me in advance of anything (no word on your allergies, or anything for that matter), I still decided to provide you with a goodwill gesture and refund the three unused nights through a wire transfer to your bank account. sincerely yours

Response from the owner
Dear Madam, I first wish to thank you for sharing your objective perception and constructive criticism following your visit in Bordeaux. I would like to point out a few things that may have slipped your attention. As mentioned on the website where the ad for the apartment is displayed, my house is located in one of the oldest and most traditional districts of the city, where people can enjoy a great number of buildings that represent the essence of 18th century architecture, such as the one where I live. I had the opportunity to welcome a fair number of tourists that appreciated this historical aspect as well as the authentic ambiance and the charm this area has to offer, such as the daily food and antiquity market that attract large crowds, not only the select connoisseur. This being said, since you were a professional tour guide and since you didn’t bother to ask any questions as per what not to miss, I assumed you had already done the necessary research in order to make the best of your visit to wander around the city, targeting the main attractions and so on. Regardless of this, you may not have noticed in the main room all the brochures and tour guides laying on the table, which would surely have been helpful judging from your comments. Following on the theme of architecture, I would like to address some comments on my house. As it was built in the 18th century, the interior design is based on the norms of that time, which I agree, differ somewhat from those of the 21st century. I have difficulty in understanding what you mean by “dark” and “gloomy” as the corridors are covered with sunflower yellow wallpaper, with paintings hanging and natural fibre carpet covering the floor. In a wish to improve this area, you will be glad to know that I contacted my electrician in order to update the lighting system in order to make sure people who have trouble seeing feel as comfortable as possible. Furthermore, this adjustment could help them remember to turn the lights off, both during daytime and night-time, when the area is no longer used. Finally, when visitors are welcomed in my house, I remain available should they require any explanation as to how to use the kitchen, the fridge, the appliances, or anything else. Since you both have solicited me on a number of occasions to organize and modify the arrival time and to ask some particular requests, such as finding the contact information of a long lost friend, I thought you felt familiar enough to ask for anything you need. My motto is that my house remains a welcoming place for anyone to live at his or her own rhythm. As such, many visitors from all ages, from France and elsewhere, have enjoyed the location, both on the terrace for breakfast, tea, a glass of wine as well as in the main living area with a book or watching TV. Sincerely yours
