Converted Village Inn set in the sleepy village of Bouriege in the Aude. The house is on three floors. On the ground floor is the fully equipped kitchen. We love to cook so there is a big stove, lots of copper pans, restaurant style double sink and of course the all important dishwasher. There is a table in the kitchen if you don't feel like eating in the more formal dining room next door.
There are two entrances to this building. One is the kitchen door entrance and just to the right of it up two steps is the ground floor bathroom with a shower. Up the stairs to the right is the large white bedroom win one double bed. At the top of the stairs straight ahead is the glass door opening out to the shared solar heated swimming pool and the stairs up to the shared terrace. To the left is the living room full of of enough books for the most voracious readers. Sorry they are mainly in English but some are in French. There is a sofa and chairs as well as a little balconette that looks out onto our tiny street. Next door to the living room is the master bedroom with ensuite bathroom. And one double bed. The master bedroom can be entered off the main staircase or through the living room.
The top floor has the attic bedroom with one double bed and one single bed - a skylight and doors that lead out to the terrace. This bedroom shares the bathroom with the single bedroom just the other side.
There are two gardens a terrace and swimming pool all of which are shared amongst the two auberges and the small converted barn at the back where the travelers used to keep their horse. These three properties can be rented together for a large house party or family gathering or else rented separately. We have always found that like in a hotel there are always plenty of outdoor spaces for everyone.
The smaller of the two gardens is just round the corner from the house. It is a small walled in garden equipped with a stone barbecue and table and chairs for al fresco dining.
At the end of our street is our basic cafe if you fancy a drink or just don't feel like cooking and want a simple meal out. She likes advance notice if you want a meal so make sure to give her a heads up so she can plan especially if you are a large group.
After the cafe a bit further down the village is our other garden with a second barbecue, badminton net and croquet and plenty of seating and hammock for those who prefer a lazy afternoon with a good book. If you want night life and big city lights. We are not for you. You will be a good fit chez nous if you want a chance to enjoy the company of friends and family in an area, full of natural beauty and history, Cathar Chateaux, not to mention of course enjoying some of our good local wine.
We are 45 minutes from Carcassonne, 1.5 hours from Toulouse and 4.5 hours from Barcelona.
There are bikes available for the sporty. WIfi of course.
We are on hand if you need any help or advice for good place to visit or a recommendation for a favorite picnic spot, hike, bike ride, restaurant or wine tasting.
