Description from owner

The house is just 10/15 minutes’ walk from a range of superb beaches: you can opt for picturesque “O Santo” which includes an inland you can walk to in low tide!, a small cove called “La Cobiña” frequented by locals only, or the large “Lapamán”, one of the most popular beaches in the area. If you prefer to drive, the choice of beaches is endless, and you should certainly pay a visit to unspoiled Cíes and Ons islands before you leave. This area has long been Spaniards’ best kept secret: if you want to sample what real Spain is all about, taste the magnificent local food and experience beautiful landscapes, look no further, this is the place to visit!

Further details

•Welcome pack provided on arrival (guides of the area)

•English and French speaking representative on hand to answer any questions via email (in person only in August).

I will send all guests a detailed guide to the area and the house which I created myself!

NB. In the colder months, a £8 fee will be payable per day to cover the cost of wood and central heating

Further details indoors

Casa de Freire is decorated in a modern country style: the communal areas have exposed stone work which provides a cosy atmosphere. All the main rooms in the house have a magnificent view of the Bay of Pontevedra with Ons islands in the horizon (the twin room is the only one which offers views of the garden but not the sea). The sunsets are really breath-taking! The main bedroom is adjacent to a large dressing room, where one of the single sofa beds is located (ideal for a child). There is also another larger single sofa bed in the master bedroom. We also have a portable cot available.

Further details outdoors

The house has a large garden, excellent for children: fully gated. You can help yourself to apples, plums, lemons and oranges from the fruit trees. In the garden you can also find a local landmark: a traditional granary on stilts which was used in the past to keep the corn, called “horreo”. The al fresco dining area and barbeque is superb, built in the local stone and protected from the sun by a traditional roof.

Very Good

“Beautiful and Relaxing!”

Reviewed 14 Sep 2016

The house is beautifully renovated and the large walled garden was perfect for our 2 young children. We made good use of the BBQ, with the lovely views and sunsets across the estuary. You are spoilt for choice for fantastic beaches all around the peninsula, although the fine granite sands of the local beaches we loved best. Our very limited Spanish and Gallacian was no barrier and the local people were all very welcoming and friendly. There is so much great seafood on offer and plenty of great restaurants. The fish markets in Bueu and Pontavedra have loads of seafood on offer ready for the BBQ. The whole family loved this holiday more than any other in recent years and I cannot recommend this beautiful corner of Spain enough.

Response from the owner Dear Ross, I am really glad that you enjoyed the area so much and that the house worked well for your family. Thanks for leaving such a lovely review!

“Great accomodation & helpfull owners”

Reviewed 10 Dec 2014

We stayed here with 2 young children (aged 5&7) for a week in July and really loved the house and garden. The house is very spacious and clean, the garden is also very big with a great outdoor eating area plus BBQ. It is a walled garden so the children could play without having to worry about traffic etc. Before we arrived the owner had already supplied us with a great guide to the house, area and other places of interest which was very well done and had everything we wanted to know plus more. Unfortunately I became ill and had to visit the Pontevedra hospital but again the owner was very helpful and contacted us to see if there was anything she could do. We will definitely be back here as we still have plenty of things to see and do.

“Beauitful casa in a lovely part of Galicia”

Reviewed 9 Sep 2014

I stayed in Casa de Freire with my wife and 3.5 year old for a week this September. We had an absolutely lovely time: The house is perfect for couples or families wanting to explore the rich coastal landscapes of the Rias Baixas, or just relax in the gorgeous garden, speckled with fruit trees. The house itself has ample space, is tastefully decorated and has all amenities one could wish for. It is modern in terms of the comforts, but has a very traditional flair - the best of both worlds. Carmen provided us with a very detailed guide that made our arrival and our stay very easy. It was also very helpful in terms of finding local services and sights. Carmen's family was very helpful and welcoming: I dont speak spanish or gallego very well but we were able to communicate perfectly. We were made to feel fery welcomeby Maria and Manuel, Carmen's sister and father , who brought over home made wine, and homegrown vegetables for us to enjoy. Casa de Freire is a beautiful place and I recommend it highly. We miss it already and will most certainly try to return

“Wonderful accommodation situated close to a fantastic beach with beautiful views of the sea.”

Reviewed 23 Jan 2014

Lovely accomodation, great for families or for a group of friends. Situated up a hill with fabulous views of the sea from the house and garden. It is wonderful to watch the sunset from the garden as the sun slips from the sky into the sea. The villa is really comfortable and in a great recently renovated condition. I would recommend hiring a car when staying here because it is situated a few miles from the nearest town Beau, which is where you will need to travel to for grocery shopping. There are plenty of beautiful beaches nearby to discover and Santiago Compostela is well worth exploring. We loved our stay here so much that we have booked to return for a fortnight this summer.

“Fantastic house and great location”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2013

We loved Casa de Freire from the minute we arrived. We were sent an excellent and very detailed information pack before our trip, so we already knew the history of the house which added to the charm. The house itself is spacious, tastefully decorated and has been restored to a high standard. We ate outside most of the time as there was a great BBQ area with a large table with amazing views down to the sea. There was plenty of space in a safe environment for our young children to play while we cooked fresh fish from the local Bueu market. We used the information pack to plan our week and enjoyed trips to Punto Home (recommended) and some gorgeous beaches that were a 5 min drive away . The only regret is that we didn't book our stay for two weeks as there was so much left to do. We really hope to return for a longer stay!

“Luxury house - magnificient view”

Reviewed 27 Jan 2013

We (a family of 3) stayed in Casa de Freire for a week in July 2012. The house is totally and very tastefully renovated recently and everything is in very good shape. The house is located on the south site of Ria de Pontevedra somewhat elevated from the sea and has a fantastic view over the Ria. The were no mosquitoes or other biting insects. The owner and her family were very helpful and we received a "homemade" guide to the area and Galicia in general and we used it a lot during our stay. The rather small city of Bueu is very close by and has several supermarkets with all that is needed. We did several excursions during our stay and we can especially recommend Cabo Udra (close by), Cambarro on the north side of the Ria, Santiago, the city of Pontevedra and the fantastic views along the river Sil somewhat inland from Pontevedra.
