“Perfect home from home in a beautiful area of France”

Reviewed 23 Aug 2017

We were delighted to have booked such a well equipped and comfortable holiday home for our stay in southern France. The pool area is lovely with shady and sunny areas with the pool getting sun almost all day. There are so many places to visit within a short drive, beautiful towns like Mirepoix and Carcassonne (so lovely lit up at night). We also hired bikes and rode a route down the Canal du Midi and canoed down the River Aude. For a relaxing day we drove into the mountains and spent the day at Ax-Les-Thermes in the spa, really something for everyone. The house is clean with comfortable beds and the pool is very well looked after.

“A lovely home”

Villa Marina is a lovely welcoming house and Kathy was a brilliant owner to deal with. Good welcome pack and everything you could possibly need. You need a car but we travelled to lots of interesting places that were not too far away.

“Peaceful, relaxing, perfect holiday villa and location.”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2015

When we fist pulled up at the Villa we were so delighted it was everything we had hoped for and more from the moment we stepped out of the car we wished we had of booked for longer! The villa is an ideal location less than 20 minutes drive from the airport on a road that's not too busy which was great for us as it was our first time driving abroad! We loved that the villa was surrounded with gardens and wooded areas which my two children enjoyed exploring and was great to have the privacy. We felt so at ease and relaxed the whole time we were there. The pool was fantastic and even better that it was heated! All the different seated areas were great. The kids had a teddy bear picnic on the log table which was a lovely touch. Inside the villa you had everything you needed and the welcome pack that was left was great. The rooms were all lovely decorated and the beds were so comfortable. I honestly couldn't fault this place in anyway. Definitely would recommend and I hope to be back to stay in the future. Thanks again Kathy

“Perfect place for a relaxing holiday.”

Villa Marina is a lovely property, very private with great outdoor eating and a very good size pool. Cailhavel is very small with few facilities but the villa is close to many lovely towns, 20 minutes drive from Carcassone and just over an hour to some great beaches. I could have happily sat by the pool for a week but we managed to do a lot and still feel very relaxed. The kitchen was fabulously stocked, better than any rental property we've stayed in and we really felt as if we were in a home rather than a holiday property. If you go, do use Dotty Kitchen for catering, great food and good value.

“Absolutely Lovely - Wish we could stay forever”

Reviewed 7 Jun 2013

We were looking so forward to this holiday as the pictures were amazing - and when we arrived our expectations were surpassed. This is a truly wonderful property - the villa is beautiful and the furnishings are really high class. No rickety beds here - all the beds are wonderfully comfortable with good mattresses and the lounge is truly comfortable. The TV has a DVD player, and English satellite channels. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped with everything you could ever need. The welcome packs was most welcome as well as it was great not to have to rush out and buy things straight away. The location is wonderful - it is just outside of a small village, rural - but still close to lots of amenities and wonderful towns - I particularly recommend Carcassonne and Mirapoix - the market on Monday mornings is wonderful. And finally to the grounds - they were just amazing - the pool is in a natural sun trap and is spotlessly clean. The woods, small vineyard, and grounds are a pleasure - something for everyone! - And the Views, well they are just stunning - on a clear day you can see the snow covered Pyrenees. - It is just breathtaking. We are a family with an 8 year old, a 16 year old and a couple in our 40s - and we found this villa just wonderful - we will definitely be coming back next year!

“Tranquil setting, yet close to local services”

Reviewed 1 Jun 2013

The house was just as described, and everything was good. We were especially grateful for things like pool towels and bin bags! Trivial I know, but it’s so annoying to arrive on Saturday evening with on 1 bag available to have to try and find the right size the next day – and of course it is never the same size as the one you have at home .....  The area around has lots of interesting small towns to visit for lunch, and of course the view of the Pyrenees from the garden with snow on the caps was breathtaking.   Anyway, everything was great, our grown up children enjoyed their week with us, though the weather could have been better (but to be expected in early May).

“A little bit of French paradise”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2012

Everything from the first contact with the owner to the day we left was absolutely perfect. The owner was really helpful from the start, telling us about good things to do in the area and helping us with recommendations about our travel to get there. There were good basic supplies and comprehensive instructions about everything in the villa and also recommendations for the local area. The villa is beautiful and if you want peace and tranquility is the perfect place. There are plenty of places to sit out, either in the woods, on the terrace or by the pool and there are lovely views from the property. There is also plenty of space inside so you don't feel like you're living on top of each other. Only tiny problem is no air conditioning so it can get quite hot in the villa but this feels like a very minor thing when you take into account all the plus points. We had a really relaxing week spent mostly at the villa but we also went to visit Carcassonne and Montsegur which are both within easy distance as are many more beautiful places to visit but it would be very easy just to spend the week in the villa and only leave to get food. I would thoroughly recommend Villa Marina to anyone who wants a quiet retreat that is pretty close to amenities and it would be great for either a group of friends together or for a family. You do need a car though.

I am delighted that you liked the villa and location and thank you very very much for your review. Best wishes Kathy

“Beautiful, simple, homely and comfortable”

Reviewed 6 Dec 2011

We were among the first people to stay in Villa Marina and felt very lucky to do so. We were very impressed with how homely the place was, as if the owners had just left and we were house sitting for them. It was full of nice touches and little extras: a well stocked food cupboard and wine rack; loads of cleaning materials and supplies such as candles and spare light bulbs and things. Quite often in self catering you have to go out and buy so many things that always seem to be taken away with every changeover. I thought that the owners were being very trusting by leaving the house so well stocked and it matched the friendliness and warmth that we felt from them when making the booking. We had a great holiday and are seriously thinking about returning to the villa in 2012.
