An affordable all year round holiday location - alpine style lodge with own HOT TUB for self catering holiday rentals. Refurbished 2017 with contemporary striped carpet to sitting room, new wooden floor to entrance hall, contemporary style sofas . Sleeps up to 8 guests. Located in the Tamar Valley, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty, providing a spacious & comfortable base from which to explore the numerous attractions that Devon & Cornwall have to offer.

Shared on site facilities include heated indoor & outdoor pools ( summer only), mini fitness suite, tennis courts, childrens outdoor playarea ,sauna, games room.

Lodge decorated to give a light and airy feel, whitewased walls, original artworks, white bedlinen. Large built in wardrobes in each bedroom. Main bathroom can be used as an en suite to main bedroom. French door from main bedroom leads on to verandah with own hot tub. Hire of high chairs & cots can be arranged n advance direct with our housekeeper. A towel each provided. Price includes electricity. Pets not normally allowed.

Getting around

A car is advisable if you really want to explore the area properly but if you are a keen cyclist take your bikes as the cross country trails abound. Ideal location for a rambling holiday out of season or take your sketch book and paints , walking boots are art buddies and soak up the idyllic countryside.

Interaction with guest

We have a housekeeper and maintenance person available to help you on site with any queries during your stay - we understand that sometimes even the simplest gadget different form your own at home can be difficult to operate and Jaime & Kevin are always on hand to explain and make your stay a comfortable one. Site does have a reception but we provide access via a key safe to the lodge so you don't have to worry about arriving before reception closes at night. We are always at the end of a telephone to answer any queries as our aim is that you have a restful and enjoyable time .

“Could benefit from updating, better maintenance & cleaning.”

On first impressions, the lodge smelled of wet dog, which we found disappointing given that we picked it specifically because they stated no pets were allowed. There was no working hob light and No one came to test the water of the hot tub during our stay. The sofas were so sunken and worn, we ended up covering them with spare quilting and sheets during our stay. The double mattress was very uncomfortable and we ended up having to sleep ontop of the quilt to minimise the pressure of the mattress springs against our backs. The leisure centre passes worked and therefore had to be taken to reception to be recalibrated. There was also what appeared to be crayon marks in the base of the bath to lodge 46, left by the previous guests. We were advised by the main office that the lodge required updating. However, having stood on an exposed nail in the sauna and the general condition of the communal areas, showers and unstable handrails to steps, it appeared to us that the entire site was being neglected and left to deteriorate. Had we have not driven so far and already made arrangements to meet friends later that week, we would have vacated the lodges much sooner than we did. We only booked the lodge based on the positive reviews from the holiday Lettings site, which in hindsight do not accurately reflect their present condition.

Response from the owner Hello Janice Thank you for setting out your comments on trip advisor – we take all comments posted very seriously and hope to learn from your stay with us to help in the running of our lodge for future holiday makers. You are correct we do not allow dogs in our lodge and I am concerned to learn that you thought you could smell wet dog on arrival – I wish you had let me know at the time as I would certainly have despatched the housekeeper down to sort out any problem immediately. I have spoken to her today and asked her to make sure that the lodge is vented as fully as possible on future turn around days just in case someone leaving on the day that a new guest arrives has taken advantage of a last minute dip in the hot tub and has had wet towels lying around just before leaving – we do have a dehumidifier for the housekeeper to use on turnaround days and I will make sure that she takes extra special care to use it on future tight turnaround days . Thank you for letting me know about the hob light I will let maintenance know to check that this week. I have spoken to Kevin who manages the hot tubs on site and he assures me that your hot tub was checked daily and chemicals added when needed . He does try to check hot tubs to least disturb guests ie will not ask you to get out if hot tub already in use but will return later – it may be that you were out at the time he called to check the water. He said that the hot tub at Lodge 46 ran well during the week of your stay without any reported problems. I shall have a look at the settees when I am down next week – when I last visited in June they were fine but I shall check next week and if there are problems with the springs then will make a decision as to whether to replace them. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Likewise we will check the mattress on the main double bed and I will attempt to remove the crayon marks that you have reported in the base of the bath – I can’t imagine why children were crayoning in the bath always a surprise what people let children do when on holidays! I am glad that the site were able to recalibrate your leisure passes for you to be able to continue to use the leisure facilities. I have notified reception today of the problem that you had last week encountering a nail in the sauna – they are sending down someone to look at this straight the way today as this is the first that has been reported to them and obviously important to remedy to ensure that no one else comes across it. We have had lots of guests staying in Valley Lodge 46 who have all had very good holidays down at Honicombe and I am sorry that you felt the lodge disappointed on this occassion. We have always responded quickly to guests requests for maintenance but as this is the first that I have heard from you I apologise that I could not therefore rectify anything during the course of your stay. Very nice clean accommodation. Excellent value for money! There were nice personal touches such as tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival. Everything was clean and the hot tub was serviced daily. I intend on booking again.
