About Canyon
By West Texas A&M, the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum is the largest history museum in the state of Texas. At Palo Duro Canyon (PDC) State Park, there's hiking, horseback riding, biking and breakfast served on the rim of the canyon. Enjoy an authentic plains cowboy Chuck Wagon Breakfast on the Los Cedros Ranch with the option after of horseback riding with Cowgirls and Cowboys in the West. The lighthouse trail is the most well-known of the hiking trails in the State Park with the lighthouse sight well-known in Canyon. If you call ahead to the park, depending on your group size, they can arrange a tour for you or may already have one scheduled to go out. The Palo Duro Zip-Lining Adventure park (on your right as you head to PDC) has a zip-line that goes out to a 350-foot suspension bridge over the canyon and a short bus jeep tour..beep beep! Canyon Square offers shopping, dining and golfing, and the best cold brew coffee at Palace Coffee. Beside it, there's the Imperial Taproom, a popular evening dinner location that also serves a weekend brunch. Barrel & Pie is a close by restaurant and bar and my personal local favorite. Close to it is the newly opened Squeezy Juice Bar. If you enjoy local diners, KJ's serves breakfast starting at 6 am every day except Saturday (7 am). The Canyon Chamber says Canyon has twenty-four Texas Historical Sites. The 'TEXAS Outdoor Musical' drama tells the tale of Texas history (June 1 - August 18). Lounge May through September in the lazy river at the Canyon Aqua Center (The CAP). The CAP first opened Aug 2017. On Saturday mornings (May-Sept), there's a farmers market in Canyon Square. Enjoy your visit to Canyon, Texas!
If you pass through Amarillo
The 1000 Degrees Neapolitan Pizza is a great place for fresh fast food made before your eyes & fired in a handmade-brick rotating-oven. The local 575 Pizzeria restaurant topped the Urban Spoon list for best Pizza in the US (sorry, Chicagoans). Perfect place to catch up with friends over pizza & a soda fountain drink/beer. If you want a large wine selection, the local dinner location to go-to is Macaroni Joes. There's the legendary 72oz free steak at the Big Texan (I-40, East edge of Amarillo by Airport) if you finish it in under 1 hour with sides and also there, a free (with ID) birthday meal of Prime Rib and sides. Millionaire Stanley Marsh III, paid folks to put up fake traffic signs throughout Amarillo and also lent a hand to the tourist magnet, The Cadillac Ranch (I-40 West edge of Amarillo). The Texas Air & Space Museum at the Amarillo Airport opens 10a-4p on days other than Sunday. If you have children, you may want to visit the Don Harrington Discovery Center, a children's museum. They have daily events for different age groups. For all the odds & ends, 6 miles to Canyon Walmart. I will do everything I can to provide excellent service and a wonderful stay!
