From the owner

As your ideal holiday home we offer you a truly exceptional property “The Hatchery” just outside the ancient village of Tolsta Chaolais on the west of Lewis. Sited above Loch na Muilne and within a couple of miles of the Callanish Stones and Dun Carloway Broch, the property is built into what was an old quarry hewn from the native rock. The road to Carloway runs past the front.

The Hatchery is a beautifully built Finnish log house set on the site of the owner's old fish hatchery which has a waterfall and stream running past within twenty feet of the side door.

Designed for simple spacious living it has two bedrooms, one on a large mezzanine, sleeping two to four people, a roomy bathroom, entrance porch, and lofty living, dining and kitchen area.

The entire front of the house is framed by floor to ceiling windows flooding the house with light and looking across the loch past the owner’s house to the distant Uig hills where you will enjoy stunning sunset views.

Heating is by a modern wood pellet stove and in the bathroom by a heated towel rail and pleasant underfloor heating when required.

We are not able to accommodate pets.

Why can't I call Caroline (the owner) before booking?

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Caroline (the owner) a message.

If Caroline (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
