Location description from owner

The Andalucia region

There is still a strong Moorish influence in the character, customs and language of the people which emanate from the 'route of the Calliphate'. This is a very historical route from Cordoba to Granada and is seen today by the castles and towers that litter the surrounding countryside of Castillo.

With its tradition of bull fights, flamenco music and dance it is one of Europe's most strikingly colourful regions. With the abundance of Moorish architecture and it's pleasant climate it is easy to see why the growth of tourism has been so strong in recent decades. Agriculturally it has richly fertile regions where cereals, citrus fruit, grapes, olives, almonds and cherries.

It's only a 45 min drive to some of the best skiing and snowboarding in Europe on the Sierra Nevada mountain range where there are 60Km of slopes, 45 pistes, 6 off piste routes, 2 cable cars, 12 chair lifts and 5 ski lifts. There's also a fantastic ski village with shops and parking for over 3000 cars.

Fancy a dip in the sea? We're only an hour from the quiet but wonderful beach resort of Salobrena

Castillo de Locubin

Castillo de Locubín is a village located 7 kilometers north of Alcalá la Real in the south-western corner of the province of Jaén, in Andalucia,Spain.

It is a pueblo blanco or white village, so named for the white-washed external walls of the houses and is located in the foothills of the Sierra Sur. There is a ruin of a Moorish castle in the town and the 16th century church is dedicated to St Peter the Apostle. Castillo's main local crafts are pottery and ceramics.

During the first week in June, a cherry festival to celebrate the Cherry harvest is held, with competitions for the best liqueurs, desserts and cuisine based on cherry. There are also processions throughout the year and markets every Monday.

In the summer months one of the local bar owners ups sticks and puts his whole bar and restaurant business at the top of the town outside the cherry factory where you can enjoy really good food, music and fun!

Just down the road from us is the beautiful spring 'nacimiento' ie birth of the river. It is a wonderful place to visit and relax. The locals go there regularly and you can see them splashing and clapping to flamenco styles in the spring! it really is a beautiful place to go and picnic.

Further out, about 25 minutes drive, is a fantastically tranquil lake nestled in the hills around olive groves. Again, this is a lovely place to visit to get away from it all!

There are numerous golf courses within a 45 minute drive as well as beautiful lakes, walks and cycling.

A brilliant water park is only 45 minutes away toward Granada. It's a day's fun for kids of any age (including us old ones) and has lots of shaded areas and cafes as well as excellent rides!

If you fancy shop til you drop try Cordoba or Granada both of which are under an hour away and feature fantastic Moorish bazaars and up to date modern shopping centres.
