Calypso Condo is located at Gentle Winds which has been ranked #1 by TripAdvisor based on travelers' reviews in St. Croix and is located directly on the beach. We just learned that Burt Lancaster stayed in our unit the entire time he made The Island of Dr. Moreau. Honeymooners, couples, and families alike will enjoy the amenities at Calypso Condo, a three bedroom, three bath unit on two levels with two master suites and cathedral ceilings. It is located on the second floor allowing guests to open all the screened floor-to-ceiling windows to capture the Trade Winds blowing through and allowing the sound of the surf to lull you to sleep. It has been completely renovated with new appliances, solid wood cabinets, granite counter tops and fixtures. The private resort has its own white sand beach surrounded by a protecting coral reef providing the perfect environment for snorkeling, swimming and just relaxing. It combines the amenities of an exclusive resort with the charm of a friendly neighborhood. Sixty-six units are located on 40 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. There are permanent tikis and lounge chairs on the beach, a new salt water swimming pool, a snack shack with freshly prepared food and drinks, a four-hole pitch and put golf course, two tennis courts, a half-court basketball court, jungle gym and a recreation room with books, ping-pong, and a shuffle board court.

Calypso Condo was designed to meet the needs of a wide clientele. For the adults, there is a sophisticated decor with multiple original works of art in every room, a 40” HDTV, MP3 compatible stereo system, WiFi for your computer, and gas BBQ. For families with children, there is an extensive array of sports equipment, games sand toys, a hand made three story doll house with furniture, and a comprehensive video library of children's movies with separate TV set. The separate but attached private storage room is suitable for storing sports equipment and contains sports equipment for the entire family including floats, snorkeling equipment, tennis rackets, basketball and golf clubs.

The main floor master bedroom with its magnificent floor-to-ceiling hand carved mirror, king bed and luxurious bedding is perfect for a couple or honeymooners. It opens directly onto the screened veranda where vacation memories will be created watching the swaying palms and listening to the surf. The two adjacent bathrooms provide his and hers privacy with lots of room to spread out.

The upstairs master bedroom with queen bed is perfect for adults that would like to set themselves off from the rest of the family. It has its own TV and DVD player, individual air conditioning (in addition to the central air conditioning), en suite bath and a very large outdoor patio where one can watch the waves roll in or sit under the stars sipping an evening cocktail or just listen to the soothing sounds of the surf.

The upstairs loft has a pull-out sofa bed where two additional individuals can sleep and a combination VHS/TV for playing the children's movies. The gorgeous plantation shutters set off the attached balcony where the gas BBQ is located.

The downstairs guest room on the land side has two twin beds, a view of the landscaped grounds with the jungle beyond and is decorated in a jungle motif with original Haitian art. All beds in the unit have foam toppers and all rooms have overhead fans.

The great room is two stories high, has wall to wall windows and looks out on the screened veranda with the lush tropical landscaping and beach beyond. The living room and upstairs gallery fans are programmable and will adjust their speed according to the room temperature. Even the outdoors screened veranda has an overhead fan to assure that the tropical breezes never stop flowing. Just a short walk across the lawn and the warm waters of the Caribbean will be lapping at your feet.

Gentle Winds is located on the exclusive north shore, half way between Christiansted and Cane Bay, home of the famous Wall at Cane Bay known throughout the world by diving enthusiasts. It is adjacent to Salt River Preserve where there are kayak tours at night to see the phosphorescence as well as day tours to see the wildlife and mangroves. It is just a ten minute drive to Christiansted where tours leave daily for Buck Island, a national underwater preserve where there is an underwater trail for snorkelers to follow. A glass bottom boat will take those who prefer not to go in the water.

To the east is the Buccaneer Golf Course along the water and to the west is the Jack Trent Championship Carambola Golf Course as well as a casino to the south east. There is horse back riding to the west and deep sea fishing is available just next door at Salt River Marina. We even had twelve hatchings of baby turtles last year!

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If Barbara (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
