Tholos Home is a renovated 17th century built house built with a dome (tholos) shaped roof. It was renovated under the supervision of the Archaeological authorities of Rethymnon to ensure the character of the house is preserved. Cretan black pine tree logs were used to manufacture the wooden ceilings of the house. It also has 19th century furniture inherited by the ancestors of the owners family.
Tholos Home is situated at the village of Chromonastiri, in Rethymnon Crete,
It's 12km away from Rethymnon, and 8km away from the highway. The village is built on a plain at 360 meters altitute at the foothills of Vrisinas mountain.
The name becomes from the nearby monastery of Panagia Kera, and the pale (Ochro) color of the walls of the monastery.
The military museum of the village is hosted in the renovated Venetian house of the Clodio family, "Rettore", Venetian ruler of Rethymnon.
The folklore museum of the village "O Mylos tou Prinari" is also another choice of getting to know the history an culture of the area.
The highlight of things to do is to visit the Myli Gorge, 1.5 km away from Tholos Home, accessible year round, ideal for all ages and easy to walk.
Visit also the Monastery of Agios Eftihios, a 11th century old monastery, or follow the E4 walking path that crosses the village, very close to Tholos Home.
