Description

Celebrated in the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics as Danny Boyle showed us England's green and pleasant land morphing into a landscape of furnaces and smoke stacks as the industrial revolution began... Coalbrookdale is where it happened.

The industrial heritage is stamped on Coalbrookdale and the surrounding areas in a charming and fascinating way. The history is all around in the landscape and the architecture.

The Old Post Office is a spacious Grade II listed building just across the road from the Coalbrookdale museums. It is right in the heart of the World Heritage Site and makes a perfect base from which to explore the seat of the Industrial Revolution and the Ironbridge Gorge.

The area is popular with walkers and cyclists and there are a number of great walks on the doorstep. There is ample on street parking right outside and a secure cycle shed at the back of the house.If you don't fancy driving (or walking) there is a bus stop right outside where you can catch a bus to Ironbridge or go into Telford to do some shopping or visit the large town park.

We have refurbished the house with comfort as our main priority. There are two large sofas to relax on and the beds all have memory foam toppers. There is free Wi-Fi and a selection of DVDs, books and games for all ages.

On the ground floor there is a sitting room with a log burner. This originally had the post office counter and retains the large shop-style window. There is also a dining room and a modern fitted kitchen on the ground floor with a fridge freezer and washer/dryer.Upstairs there is a large double bedroom with a kingsize bed, a second bedroom with 3ft bunk beds and a modern bathroom with electric shower other the bath. The house has no garden but there is a small terrace area outside the kitchen with a small table and two chairs for a glass of something in the sunshine or a cup of coffee (or a cigarette)

The Museums use a passport ticket system, which on their website says....''The Annual Passport Ticket represents fantastic value. It allows unlimited daytime admission to all 10 Ironbridge Gorge Museums, during normal opening hours, so you can return as often as you like for one year. If after 12 months you have still not visited particular sites, you can return at any time in the future to make one free visit to the sites that you've missed''

We would ask our lovely guests to leave the property clean and tidy by 10.30am on the day of departure. Arrival is any time after 4pm.

PLEASE NOTE: The Old Post Office is on the road to Ironbridge. With the bus stop right outside, please expect some traffic noise.There are five steep steps from the pavement up to the house. Please consider this if you have impaired mobility.

“Amazing house in a wonderful location”

Wow, what a week we have had. This house is just perfect for our little family. A huge master bedroom with the most comfortable bed of anywhere we have stayed and a wonderful kids room with bunk beds. The bathroom is massive. The kitchen has everything that was needed and more. The dinning room is homely and the lounge is great. Use the outside furniture to site out a couple of evenings, out the front watching the world go by. The area is wonderful,so much to do. Obviously the 10 museums of Ironbridge are a highlight but we also loved Much Wenlock, Ludlow, Bridgenorth,RAF Cosford, Severn Valley Railway, Telford Steam Railway and various English Heritage sites. The pub just up the road was one of the biggest highlights, super friendly with a great selection of ale at ridiculously low priced. I cannot recommend a stay highly enough.

The Old Post Office is very comfortably furnished and is equipped with all that is needed. There is on road parking right outside and also right outside is a bus stop (for both directions). It is an excellent location for visiting the attractions many of which can be reached on foot. Ample shops and pubs are in the area and numerous lovely walks. Should we return to the area we would not hesitate to stay there again.

This was our second visit to The Old Post Office, so obviously we wanted to go back and this time didn't disappoint, even though we had horrible weather. The only thing that would make it better would be a downstairs wc, however we realise that in an old place like this maybe it would not be possible. Would visit again.
