An immaculately presented, deceptively spacious family built & owned semi-detached house is situated in the pretty hamlet of Torver, approx. 2 miles from Coniston in the heart of the Lake District. This two storey property can comfortably accommodate 6 people (including children/infants), has a king-sized master bedroom with en-suite and TV/DVD, two twin bedrooms (one with TV/DVD), family bathroom with shower over and a downstairs wc.

Fully refurbished in 2013, guests can enjoy a 50" TV, free wifi, full sky tv (movies and sports), log burning stove (starter basket included), large living / dining area which can accommodate 8 people comfortably, quality oak furniture, oak and slate flooring, fully equipped kitchen and bathrooms. Outside there is plenty of off-road parking (at least 4 cars) and enclosed patio with BBQ and garden furniture to lawned garden.

Two fabulous hostelries (including the Wilsons Arms incorporating Torver Deli and The Church House Inn) within 150 yds, means you can leave the car behind if you wish, or explore further afield with Ambleside, Windermere, Hawkshead and Ulverston all within easy reach by car.

Getting around

The easiest and most convenient way to get around is by car, if you're not walking, are less mobile or venturing further afield. Local Taxis based in Coniston are rare but it can be possible if booked well in advance. Taxis will be available from the larger towns (Ulverston, Ambleside) and a premium will be charged for the distance callout. There are local bus stops within 150m, the x12 bus run approx every 1.5hrs during the day down to Coniston and over to Ulverston. Connections can be made from Coniston across to Ambleside and Lake Windermere and from Ulverston to Barrow-in-Furness.

Interaction with guest

House keys will be left in a keysafe for you to access upon arrival. We will let you settle in and find your feet without disturbing you - we don't meet and greet. We are always available by phone, mail or text should you have any issues at anytime. We are sometimes at the family bungalow next door, so you may well see us at the bar.

The location of house was just right for us. Close enough to Coniston to get there easily. Quiet and peaceful. House was lovely. Everything we wanted. Nice garden. Two lovely pubs within 200 metres. Great food at pubs. Lovely walks close by and lovely scenery.

“Ideal for Us”

We stayed at Ashgill for 3 days following the Easter break. The cottage is as described and well cared for. A nice bottle of wine and welcome card was much appreciated.The cottage was larger than expected and very clean with comfy beds. Very close to the Wilson Arms and the Church House Inn both of which were very welcoming and excellent food. Just 5 minutes in to Coniston and i recommend Saras Indian restaurant which does eat in and take away. As a rental home owner myself(Florida) i can say that Bev and Paul have hit the nail on the head!

We just spent 5 days and absolutely loved it. The house was spotless and very clean. Our 4 young children loved every minute of it and would come back and stay here again without hesitation. The card and bottle of wine from the owners was a very nice touch and made us feel very welcome there. Thanks again.

“it does not get better than this”

we booked this accomodation online in australia. It was every bit as good as the pictures looked. every thing was provided and more.we would not hesitate to recomend this cottage to anyone.just remember to take the torch with you at night to the pub.

“Great trip to a fantastic cottage”

A party of 6 of us stayed for 3 weeks as part of a university geology project working and walking in the local Coniston fells. The cottage itself is well situated as a base for walking into the fells (and the Old Man of Coniston) and the Torver deli & The Wilsons Arms pub are great facilities to have nearby in the village. There is good access to Coniston & further afield to the Duddon Valley, Ambleside & Windermere by road - there is easily room for 2 cars at the cottage. The cottage is well and recently furnished as the photographs suggest with a large and comfortable combined living and dining area and a modern kitchen on the ground floor with a large hallway to store boots, coats & bags, etc. There are 2 twin rooms and a master bedroom (with double bed) upstairs which are again well furnished. There is an ensuite with shower connected to the master bedroom and a separate bathroom - both modern and well furnished. The house was kept clean (despite of 6 university students) by a weekly cleaner. All in all, we had a great trip & were really impressed by the quality of the cottage. Recommended.

“Very spacious, good quality accommodation in Torver”

This was our 17th stay at Ash Gill cottage, which says it all really! Super location with the Wilson Arms pub for food & refreshment nearby and lots of lovely walks from the house, including the Old Man of Coniston and Coniston Lake. The house is really well equipped with super furniture & furnishings. A luxury family bathroom plus ensuite & downstairs loo makes it easy for 6 people to stay very comfortably. We always have a great time!

“eighteen years and counting....”

We enjoyed our eighteenth stay at Ash Gill, and that should be a good endorsement of itself. We are all keen walkers, and Ash Gill provides superb access to the surrounding fells. The village has two pubs and it is great to stroll to one - in two minutes - for good beer, wines and food, after a rewarding day outside. The house facilities are good, recently updated, and our hosts invariably helpful. How long can we keep going?
