Picture this-
You arrive in the evening when the last rays of the sun have withdrawn into the horizon. A quiet calm has set in and the cold, crisp air is beginning to fill up with the distant clicks and chirps of cicadas and crickets. You walk into your cosy room in the cottage and take up the offer of a warm hug that your blanket promises you. The silence, that allows you to hear the sound of your own heart gently beating, relaxes you and in no time, you slip into the most peaceful sleep.
A new day has begun and you wake up to the sweet sound of birds singing. The morning light is outside asking you to open the windows and let her in. You step into the garden and are greeted by a riot of colours. The clean air brings you samples of fresh fragrances from the flowers around. The leaves and grass sparkle as sunlight reflects off crystalline dew drops.
Time slows down to let you take it all in and enjoy every sound, sight, smell and sensation that the place has to offer.
You can spend hours watching birds or see what the resident Malabar giant squirrels are up to or maybe a colourful butterfly you've never seen before will grab your attention, there may be a fascinating insect that you would like to observe, you could walk down to the stream to soak your feet in the cold water or sit down with an interesting book and a cup of hot tea as mist begins to envelop the surroundings.
These are just some of the many possible ways to get back in sync with nature and unwind. This is Erin Villa.
Erin Villa is a 150+ year old heritage building that used to belong to an Irish couple. It comprises of the main house and a guest cottage. It is situated on 6-acres of land located 1.8 kms from the main Coonoor town on a private road leading to Singara Estate.
The guest cottage has 2 bedrooms with attached bathrooms, a sitting room, a dining room, a kitchenette, a living room and an extra toilet and can comfortably accommodate 4+2 people.
It's a haven for nature lovers and has a profusion of flora and fauna. Wildlife enthusiasts can occasionally spot deer, bisons, Malabar giant squirrels, porcupines, wild hares, mongooses and bears. You can spot at least 40+ different species of birds and as many different types of flowers and plants if not more, in and around the property.
There's also a stream which is easily accessible and a waterfall (reaching it requires a short trek and we recommend carrying a pair of rubber boots for safety if you want to get to it). All this can be found within the 6-acre property which is surrounded by tea covered hills on two sides, a forest on one side and a view of the plains below.
In short, this is the place to come to if you want to enjoy unadulterated nature that's far away from traffic, pollution, gadgets, and technology. Good restaurants, tourist spots such as Sims park, Lambs rock, Dolphins nose, etc are within a 10-15 minutes drive. Other places of interest like Ooty, Kotagiri, Catherine falls etc, are within a 45 minutes drive.
Breakfast is complimentary and you have two options-
1. The kitchenette in the cottage will be stocked with juice, milk, cornflakes, eggs, bread, jam, butter, tea bags and coffee. The required utensils, cutlery, a toaster, a stove and an electric kettle is provided and you can make your breakfast.
2. You can head to Coonoor town and have a south Indian breakfast at the designated restaurant (included in the tariff)
For lunch and dinner, there are many good eateries in and around Coonoor and a couple of them even home deliver food so you don't have to step out if you want to enjoy a hot meal in the comfort of the cottage.
