FortyTwo is a super three-storey Victorian townhouse close to the centre of town - just a minute’s walk from Shepard’s Wharf and less than five minutes level stroll to the Yacht Haven and Cowes town centre, with its famous selection of shops, bars, restaurants and takeaways.

Nb - we have no recent the reviews as FortyTwo has not been let since 2021.

The house is well set up for a comfortable stay for families or sailors, with TV, wi-fi, washing machine and dishwasher.

There is free 24-hour on-street parking, plus a pay-to-park car park just a minute away.

FortyTwo offers three bedrooms, two bathrooms (one has bath and shower, the other is shower only), a comfy sitting room with sofas and TV for relaxing, a modern well-equipped kitchen and a further light and airy lounge/dining room with bi-fold glass doors opening to the patio and lawned garden.

Guests can enjoy dining al fresco using the garden table and chairs, with large parasol, and there is a charcoal barbecue plus extra seating.

Also on the ground floor is the modern shower room/WC.

On the first floor is a twin-bed room and the large family bathroom, with bath, separate shower cubicle, WC and washing machine/ drying rack.

The second floor has a master bedroom, with very comfy super-kingsize bed, and a further twin bedroom, with views across rooftops to the yacht haven and Solent.

Please note the stairs are steep - typical Victorian cottage style - so the house is not suitable for anyone with limited mobility.

The seafront and esplanade is ten minutes level walk away (maybe a bit longer if you browse the interesting high street shops on your way!) and leads on past the Royal Yacht Squadron to Cowes beach. The popular sailing village of Gurnard, with beach, is just round the headland.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at FortyTwo.

We respectfully ask guests not to smoke as there is a strict No Smoking rule at FortyTwo.

Changeover days are Friday or Monday, minimum stay is three nights.

As well as the free 24-hour on-street parking in our road, there is a pay-to-park car park in the next street. We can supply information on purchasing an all-Island tourist permit, valid for this car park and many others around the Island, currently £27 for three days or £65.65 per week.

brilliant location parking was hit and miss . needs a handrail to entrance steps as rather steep .stairs in house also steep so were difficult to climb.Beds were basic and not very comfortable .we did… More

I am pleased you enjoyed your stay in Cowes, you certainly had the best weather of the summer, and I am sorry you found the stairs steep, FortyTwo is a typical Victorian shipbuilders cottage ( as we mention in our listing) and might not be suitable for everyone. Thank you for mentioning the stiffness in the bifold doors, my husband has now investigated and found a bent hinge, probably caused by an earlier guest forcing the door sideways. We are now getting this repaired, unfortunately we are only aware of such issues if they are reported to us. I am also now aware the house and garden were not kept up the expected standard by our agents this summer, we will not be using them again. I hope this did not spoil your enjoyment.

How do damage deposits work?

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Mary and Kevin (the owner) a message.

If Mary and Kevin (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
