Our house is situated in the village of Rutka, Podlasie in the district of Dubicze Cerkiewne, near the Białowieża Forest, at the old route between Bielsk Podlaski and Kamieniec (Belarus). The eldest citizens call it the Old Roadside. The first time Rutka was mentioned in 1576. Its name comes from iron ore.
Our region is characterized by multiculture. The Poles, Belarusians, Ukrainians, Tatars, Jewish, Lithuanians and Russians live here together.
Rutka is located in the most beautiful area of Hajnówka which belongs to the Białowieża National Park. The tourists who come here are enchanted by its beauty and diversity.
Our house is near Hajnówka, Białowieża, the bison reserve and Grabarka holy mountain. People of many nationalities and religions live here. The greatest power of this region is its picturesqueness, and Hajnówka, the capital of this area is the centre of Belarusian minority culture and the organiser of the International Orthodox Music Festival. Tourists may find here many roadside chapels, votive crosses, and cottages with open shutters characteristic for the region of Podlasie.
