“Peace & Quiet aplenty”

Reviewed 29 Sep 2018

After a long drive from Calais, we arrived at the barn quite late, but the owner had left us some milk, bread, cheese & wine to start us off which was nice. Our immediate 'issue' was flies and shortly understood why there were rolls of fly paper in the cupboards and would imagine that in the height of summer this could be a problem - but you are in the middle of rural Normandy ..right? There were also lots of cobwebs everywhere which perhaps showed a little lack of housekeeping, but once me and 'Henry' had eradicated the unwanted squatters tents and satisfied my OCD the barn looked much better lol. It is a good size for 2 people, plenty of room, although anymore adults would have made it feel more cramped (but that's due to personal preference)and having smaller children may be an issue due to the stairs which are quite narrow & precarious to be chasing little ones up or down. In the kitchen, we felt it did lack a toaster & microwave and the knives in the block need sharpening but on the whole a well equipped space. Bedrooms were also fine, we had 'his & hers' bathrooms just because we could, which was nice! On the whole Saltwood Barn is a nice comfortable place to stay and we enjoyed it and would definitely recommend a stay there! The area is wonderfully quiet, but there are nice places to visit nearby and it's easy to navigate once you get to know it.

Response from the owner Apologies for the cobwebs ! We left the barn the same day you arrived and did the cleaning ourselves instead of our usual housekeeper so I may need a new pair of glasses perhaps !!. We never felt a toaster was needed due to the superb French bread usually being the order of the day, however as you say a microwave might be a good idea - thanks. Flies are as you say a price to pay for being in rural Normandy unfortunately !!.
