Cool off in Ella during your stay at this simple but lovely home stay.
Price is for the double bedroom. There’s also a family room available.
The Space
The homestay is owned by the host's father Mr. Buddhi, who’s lived there since the 1980's. The guestroom, a nice double bedroom with a wooden floor and has an authentic feel to it, was built in 2013. Its big windows opens like doors to the nice colorful garden right in front of the room. There's a newly built family room on the upper section of the home, which can be rented separately. The garden has a variety of spices like pandan leaves, curry trees and cardamon, which they use in preparing meals. There are fruit trees such as mango, rose apple, local green orange and passion fruit. There are lots of flowers and currently seven bee boxes to produce honey.
Interaction with Guests
Lakmal is a middle-aged businessman, who’s been an electricity sales agent for the past 10 years. He lives with his wife, two kids and his father in separate spaces in the same property. Lakmal's wife prepares yummy local dishes and she does cooking classes too. We were told that past guests have enjoyed these classes very much. When Lakmal is not around, his father Mr Buddhi is there to greet guests when. He’s a very knowledgeable person, great to have a chat with, especially about the variety of plants in his garden and the bee honey boxes he takes care of.
The Neighborhood
When you hear Sri Lankans speak about Ella, it sounds as if they’re talking about some icy alpine base camp high up in the clouds. “It’s freezing there”, they say. “Bring warm clothes”, they say. But don’t worry: although this might be one of the few places in the country where a sweater might be needed, Ella is a very nice place to cool off after a week on Sri Lanka’s beaches.
Lakmal’s itself is located close to Little Adam’s peak entry point. From the home, it’s 1km to Ella town, Newberg green tea factory and Nine Arch Bridge.
