Monnington House and Garden Cottage provide luxurious and spacious accommodation for up to 18 guests in beds and 2 cots. Situated in the beautiful Wye Valley in between Hereford and Hay on Wye and close to the river Wye. Accessible from the M5 and M50.

The hamlet of Monnington on Wye offers undisturbed tranquility and yet is easily connected to local activities nearby and on the Wye, a superb farm shop at the top of the lane and a good breadth of pubs all within 20 minutes drive. You will hear sheep grazing and birds tweeting as they go about their daily business. A short walk to the river through the cider orchards will stir your senses and let your shoulders drop and stresses disappear.

Monnington House and Garden Cottage are supplied with high quality hypnos super king (zip and link) beds and come with luxurious 400 thread count Egyptian linen. This simple luxury allows you to rest and restore. Each bedroom has its own bathroom giving extra privacy and room. The main house is geared up for numbers and catering. The kitchen is well equipped and stocked and the dining area both inside and outside seat 18. To help you entertain and cater there are 2 electric ovens, 2 dishwashers, an aga during the winter months and 3 fridge freezers. We have a great local caterer who works in the house often particularly when large groups come to stay. She has great reviews and is reasonably priced.

On site there is plenty to do - enjoy the large garden and grounds of 2 acres which are private and quiet or play football on the large playing field. For rainy days and winter nights there is a rustic table tennis room and a games room with pool table and table football in the outbuildings. Bring your fleece and wrap up.

There is wonderful walking straight from the door with a choice of trails available. Monnington on Wye is located on the Bredwardine to Byford Section of the Wye Valley Walk and aso on the E1 part of the Wye Walker. Across the river guests enjoy the Moccas Hill Wood National Nature Reserve where is a large choice of walks suitable for all ages and abilities. A walk up Hay Bluff will get the heart racing but you could always call into the Three Tunnes afterwards!

During the summer months the River Wye comes into its own. Guests love fishing and can obtain a passes from the Fishing Passport. Large group bookings often enjoy a full or half day canoeing or kayaking on the Wye which can include a suitable stop at a pub for refreshments. Wild swimming is increasingly popular. We can put you in touch with an expert. There are 5 golf courses nearby.

Visits to the market towns of Hay on Wye, Presteigne and Leominster are enjoyed and for those who love a cathedral the Mappa Mundi is Hereford is a must. There are still many independent shops in these market towns with great galleries and cafes to visit. The Weir Gardens are just down the road. Beautiful National Trust Gardens built on the the banks of the Wye. There is a wonderful natural play park for children. The Small Rare Breeds Farm at Kington is loved by young and old. These miniature creatures continue to amuse us.

Monnington House and Garden Cottage welcomes large groups from all over the UK and world. In particular guests come from the Midlands, Bristol, South West England, Ireland, Scotland and the Homes Counties. Happy memories are made here.

2 obedient dogs are welcome by prior arrangement. Charges of £10 per dog per day. Dogs permitted in the house only on the flagstone areas and not on any carpeted areas nor furniture. Not to be left in the house unattended.

Groups of 30 year olds are not accepted.

I read your review with interest and agitation. It is noted you were not lead guest booking Monnington House. There were 16 guests amongst your group. This booking was made via Premier Cottages which links you directly to our own site where you observe FULL details of the accommodation in the house and cottage, floor plans​ and request an inventory. Monnington House offers 9 spacious bedrooms and 9 bathrooms/shower rooms. I attach the review left this morning by the lead guest of your group. Yearly get together of friends. We get together every year so need a house with enough bedrooms, bathrooms and space and this house certainly had it all. Everything about it was great. The beds/linen were super comfy, lots of comments. Kitchen was well equipped and large for a big gathering. It was great to have different reception rooms so men and women can divide and chat about different things. The area was also great, lovely walks from doorstep. We walked to the pub The Portway Inn 20 minutes and had a lovely meal, also would definitely recommend caters Debbie and woody Blagg another excellent meal. All in all would definitely recommend for a large gathering. This site details the bathrooms as follows 1 Family bathroom, 7 En suites, 1 Shower room The external window frames are scheduled to be painted when the weather is better. As is often the case these types of review are written when the guest is dissatisfield for a number of reasons. Thank you for submitting a great review. Our superb beds and luxury linens are always appreciated, their excellent quality is rare in the holiday rentals market. So pleased you also enjoyed the great kitchen geared up for catering and numbers and the garden. We do note on our booking details wifi can be intermittent. At no point on our listing details do we advertise a sports package. Many of our guests who return year after year enjoy the peaceful rural surroundings where they can be active on the property using the football field, games room and table tennis room and nearby. They also appreciate the time to socialise with their friends and families.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If Anna (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
