From the owner

This is a truly unique holiday experience away from roads, traffic and street lights. Access is via the owner's 4x4 down a half mile track cut into the cliff and through a ford in the nearby river. Once here you will access most places by foot, be able to spend hours on the beach or seek adventures amongst the numerous footpaths that leave here to access Gower's beaches, castles, pubs and cafes!

There are of course some draw backs:

- Vehicular access is by 4x4 only

- Heating is via wood burning stove

- Mobile phone reception is very limited

But then think of the positives:

- Vehicular access is by 4x4 only!

- Heating is via wood burning stove!

- Mobile phone reception is very limited!

- Peace, quiet, owls, bats, stars, the sound of the sea at night…

Ship Cottage is unique. Yes we know lots of holiday cottages tell you they are unique but Ship Cottage really is. You will never stay in another cottage or location quite like it.

Ship Cottage is one of only two houses nestled in glorious seclusion in Pwll Du Bay on the Gower Peninsular, South Wales, an area so beautiful it became Britain's very first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Pwll Du itself is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) a designation given only to those areas that best represent our natural heritage. It is an idyllic, secluded bay backed by a wooded valley complete with its very own babbling stream. Being free from roads and accessible to all but residents only on foot the crowds are kept at bay and it is considered by many locals as Gower's best kept secret.

You will be met by the owners upon your arrival who will ferry you and your luggage down the 1 mile track by Land Rover. Thereafter you will be left to your own devices and to take advantage of the wonderful seclusion afforded by the property; fires on the beach, midnight swims, the sound of the sea at night, owls, bats, stars and the many walks through the woods or along the cliffs to coffee shops or local beaches.

The original part of the house dates back as far as records begin, at least to 1700 and is likely to be significantly older than that. Originally built as a quarryman's home it then became a smugglers' inn (the nearby Brandy Cove is named after the amount of illicit contraband smuggled through t) before falling in to private ownership in the 1970's. The recently restored property retains the character and feel of a 350 year old cottage whilst having the modern comforts we have come to expect in a holiday retreat. The ground floor has underfloor heating which warm the beautiful flagstones beneath your feet.

The generous lounge has seating for five including a double sofa bed and has a wood burning stove which sits alongside an original bread oven in the inglenook fireplace.

The large kitchen-diner has a modern rustic feel and can comfortably seat 10 at the table in the oak frame dining room. From here patio doors lead out into a pretty garden with sea views.

On the first floor there are three bedrooms; the master bedroom with super kingsize bed and some sea views, another with its own ensuite containing a double and a single bed and a third which contains a double and high top single. The family bathroom again has underfloor heating beneath slate flags and you can indulge in the roll top bath whilst gazing out to sea.

Whilst 2 guests can sleep on the sofa bed the house is more comfortable with 8 and I would only recommend 10 for a short break not a week stay. However if you need more space you can add another two to four guests by renting next door!

The house has a through door to the annexe which sleeps 2+2 and is available to rent separately It comprises a very large lounge diner with sofa, sofa bed and wood burning stove. Upstairs there is a large ensuite bedroom with double bed and fantastic balcony with amazing sea views. For more information please visit - https://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/rentals/bishopston,-swansea-county/187246

Booked together the house and the annexe sleep 10 with space for a further 4 on sofa beds and make the ideal get-away-from-it-all holiday space for family or groups of friends.

This enchanting, picturesque bay is set within the heart of the Gower Peninsular, an area so beautiful it became Britain's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). With a history rich in smuggling and quarrying it is a haven to walkers, artists and nature lovers and considered by many locals as Gower's best kept secret. Ship Cottage is a stone's throw from the beach and was built as a pub around 1700 to keep the quarry workers from getting too thirsty. The beauty of this holiday location is its isolation - once you are here you will feel in another world, away from cars and traffic yet only a brisk walk east or west along the coastal paths will lead you to good Cafes and a brisk walk north to a choice of three local pubs all serving good food.

Dogs are welcome (upto 2 at £25 p/tail)
