The cottage is one of three belonging to Sakli Vadi and is situated just below The Byre and Granary. The ruin was bought in 1995 and took nine months to renovate.
Because the lower part of the house was hewn out of the rock and faces due west, it was decided to build the sitting room upstairs. The lounge is accessed in two ways from the walled garden. You can climb the outside steps, past the samll plunge pool to the wooden balcony, faced with carved timbers in the local style. From the balcony you enter the sitting room through French doors. The kitchen and bathroom lead off the lounge.
The other way up to the sitting room is through the ground floor, double bedroom. As with the balcony, you enter the bedroom from the garden through French doors at ground level. You then climb the traditional stone staircase up into the sitting room.
The garden is, like the other cottages, surrounded by a high wall to be totally secluded. Next to the pergola, built into one corner of the garden wall, is a traditional Turkish fireplace, with bench seats attached. As with the Granary garden, a barbecue unit is built into the fireplace. There is a small private plunge pool and patio area built into the eastern corner of the garden.
The balcony faces west and is perfect for sitting and chatting, watching the wonderful sunsets over the hills looking towards the sea at Gemiler Bay three kilometres away. The Forge has become a favourite holiday cottage for honeymooners over the years.
Further details
Sakli Vadi is a small family owned and run, fully independent tourism company. We don't have any fixed changeover days and we work around the flights and dates which best suit you our clients. We can arrange car hire (delivered to and collected from the cottages) and/or airport transfers, if required.
All Sakli Vadi cottages allow smoking both inside and in the gardens. We provide all bed linen. We also provide towels, for use at the cottage. We ask our clients to bring their own beach towels please.
The stereo systems are stored at another location and are available on request. The stereo system are suitable for iPods and MP3 players only and not CDs.
Further details indoors
The Forge has a beautifully secluded patio garden. Since 1995 the flower beds and shrubs have become well established and additional colur is given by the many flowers in pots dotted around the terrace.
Although we have ticked that we have a CD player, it is actually a iPod/MP3 system, which most of our customers now have.
Further details outdoors
In our attempts to keep the cottages as traditional as possible, we have built in The Forge and the Granary gardens turkish fireplaces. The fireplaces have concrete bench seats attached, covered in scatter cushions. In the winter months the fireplaces burn logs for warmth but for the long summer months we put BBQ's in them for our guests to use, if they feel like cooking.
