Cabopino beach are situated on the coast, halfway between Fuengirola and Marbella. Miles of beautiful sandy beaches with water sports, fishing and boat trips. There is also a pleasant harbour and renowned restaurants. Cabopino is one of the Costa del Sol's best kept secrets. Ideal for kids as shallow water!!

One of the most delightful promenades on the Costa Del Sol, with its classy restaurants and bars overlooking the beach front. A visit to the Orange Square will bring you to a host of street restaurants in the old part of Marbella.

A lively resort with its beautiful sandy beaches & a spectacular promenade 2km long. Visit the Marina Plaza, often described as Covent Garden on water. Other attractions include the Tivoli World theme park.

Mijas Pueblo: (20 mins drive)

One of the prettiest villages in Spain, this traditional village has breath taking views. Take a donkey ride to explore the charm of this village on the famous. Also lookout for the Mineral water spring at the entrance to the village

Ronda: (2hr drive)

Ronda is truly a spectacular village, famous throughout Spain for the plunging river gorge which divides this enchanting village. Ronda also has the oldest & most beautiful bullring in the whole of Spain.

The Mijas Hippodrome, ( a racetrack) is situated a few km's from Riviera which has meetings every week and includes lots of entertainment around the course. Anyone visiting Mijas will of course want to wander through the beautiful, whitewashed mountain Pueblo to enjoy the spectacular views.

If you want to explore further afield there are many car rental agencies that will allow you to pick up a car at the airport and leave it there once finished. In the retail complex is a hire car company called Fetajo which I would recommend as they are very competitive with good quality cars and no hassle petrol wise. They will rent cars for your entire holiday or for just a few days. Pick up and drop off at the airport can be arranged.

History

Over the centuries the area has been occupied by the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans and Moors. The history records date back to 2 B.C.

The town is dominated by the old Moorish castle, Castillo Sohail, which sits atop a hill just outside the town. In ancient times the area was known as Suel and then Suhayl, hence the castle’s name.

Roman remains have also been found in sites in around Fuengirola and can be found in the Museo de Historia (History Museum) in the town.

Places to visit

Just 8 km away is Benalmadena, with its elegant Casino de Torrequebrada, Selwo Marina and Tivoli World, and the capital city of the province Malaga, is 20 kilometres away. Malaga is a beautiful city of culture, history and great cuisine and well worth a visit. You can reach the city by bus or train, as well as by car.

The charming pueblo (village) of Mijas is around a 10 minute drive away and although it is now more populated with foreign residents and tourists, you still get the feel of traditional Spain here.

The glamorous seaside resorts of Marbella and Puerto Banus are around 25-30 minutes journey time in the car or taxi, or you can catch a bus, which takes a little longer as it stops at every urbanisation/village along the way.

Beaches

The broad sandy beaches of Fuengirola and Los Boliches offer heaps of facilities, restaurants, sports, showers and toilets. Carvajal, Gaviotas, Boliches, San Francisco, Santa Amalia and Castillo beaches beckon. Chiringuitos line the beachfront with delicious smells of ‘Sardinas al Speto’ (Sardines on the spit) wafting out along the promenade. All serve tasty traditional Southern Spanish seaside dishes, such as Gazpacho, sardines on the spit, paella and pescaito frito (mixed fried fish platter).

Around town

Fuengirola offers all the facilities of a major tourist centre: restaurants, bars, discos, sports clubs, etc. There is also a large shopping complex, the Parque Miramar Shopping Centre, which houses over 160 shops, plus bars, restaurants, cinema and a children’s play park.

Apart from the general attractions of a tourist centre, Fuengirola offers a number of interesting venues such as the Roman baths at Torreblanca, the Arab castle of Solhail, the Outdoor Museum, exhibiting paintings by a variety of artists, the yacht harbour and club and two fantastic golf courses – Los Olivos and Los Lagos.

Eating out

You won’t go hungry in Fuengirola, the town has got an amazing restaurant choice, whatever your preference. Of course, there are some amazing Spanish restaurants, tapas bars and beachside restaurants that serve traditional Spanish cuisine, but there is also such a diversity of people living in Fuengirola, and the restaurant options reflect this: British, Scandinavian, German, Indian, Chinese, Italian, Moroccan, Lebanese, the choice is endless.

Festivals

The wonderful Fuengirola Feria (festival) takes place annually between the 6th and 10th of October, in honour of Our Lady, the Virgin of El Rosario, the Patron Saint of Fuengirola.

The town’s feria is one of the most important on the Andalusian feria calendar, and one of the most vibrant. The week long celebration makes it feel like the whole town is on holiday.

Climate

Fuengirola enjoys a sub-tropical Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and warm winters. Cooling breezes from the sea make the summer heat manageable; temperatures average 32 ºC during the summer.

“One of the best we have stayed at.”

Reviewed 3 Apr 2016

We have had a lovely stay in this apartment, it has everything you need and is an ideal 10 minutes walk down to the beach. The weather has been hot & sunny which is very good for this time of year. We visited the castle & got some really good photos! The train station is only 15 minutes walk, so you can always go to Torremollinos, Benalmadena which we did for the day. Would like to return for another holiday next time we're in Fuengirola

“Comfortable 2 bedroom apartment in walking distance from all Fuengirola”

Reviewed 20 Jan 2016

Apartment: Nice master bedroom. Comfortable bed. The apartment is small but cosy. It is better than the average Spanish quality. Great new couch with almost 3 chaiselounges for viewing the 200 movies available on the Woxter box. Can be used for sleeping. This way 3 guys can have each their "bedroom". Good value for the money. Expect some noise from neigbours and street, but with a pair of ear plugs, you will hardly notice. Heating works fine. Great in the winter time. Real duvets. Some amenities needs a change, but will work. Parking: Parking in the neighbourhood. We mostly found space right outside the door. Visit Casa Colon for great food and great atmosphere on the small square. Lots of people. Also Aroma for great and cheap food.

“Enjoyed every minute”

Had a lovely time here, a super apartment in exactly the right location. We had some amazing food at rock bottom prices mainly tapas, but also full plates. Our favorite was we think, Donny's just down the road, huge portions of BBQ type food. Also must mention Tipi Tapa (Near Donny's) where they hold flamenco nights there three times a week-Brilliant!! Best tapas was probably in the first bar you come to on the right, down Malaga Street. If you are unfortunate enough to require a dentist, we can recommend Simon and Sam Mark, (Burgos St) near Tipi Tapa. Thanks Nayana for letting us stay at your lovely apartment.

“Nice, modern flat, great pool and central location.”

We stayed there for one week with our 2 children, and liked the flat. Walking distance to almost everything, and just around the corner from the waterpark. Reccomended
