“Good location, great outdoor spaces to relax and enjoy views over the garden and Funchal.”

Reviewed 18 Feb 2018

The location of the villa was great, close enough to Funchal to get in easily by car, taxi or bus but far enough away to enjoy the views and relax in the beautiful gardens. Our favourite spot was the covered sitting area where we had breakfast, enjoying the view, morning sun and smelling the perfume from the flowers in the garden. On arrival the villa was clean and comfortable, with a well appointed kitchen and welcome basket of local goodies. It was a little chilly on the first few nights (it was February). Unfortunately the main fire in the living area wasn't working but we were provided with an gas heater as an alternative, and each bedroom had an electric heater too. Joao made us feel very welcome and was helpful in giving advice on the local amenities. We enjoyed our first night's meal in a local restaurant Joao recommended and having a good supermarket, bakery, butchers and pharmacy just 10 minutes walk was ideal. A really enjoyable week's holiday.

Response from the owner Thank you Erin for your lovely review which is both complimentary and informative. We greatly appreciate that you have taken the time to review the villa and we will attend to the main fire in the living area. Thank you again and we hope that you will stay with us again. Kind regards, Jill

“The best Villa we have ever stayed in.”

Reviewed 12 Apr 2014

Only two of us but would very well equipped & spacious for six. Very well maintained with high quality fittings. Outside the gardens are lovingly attended by Joao who is the owner's on-site very helpful manager. From the terraces there are fine views over Funchal which can easily be reached by a regular bus service on a short ride. The villa is also well placed near to the Via Rapida from which all other places on the island can be reached in 1/1.5 hrs. For Funchal the local access roads are far from narrow but for some of the less confident drivers a downtown location in the hotel zone would suit them better. Ho However we can unreservedly recommend this property

“Excellent place also for a young family to have relaxing vacations on Madeira”

Reviewed 24 Mar 2014

We had wonderful vacations with our 10 months baby and the villa was best placed to feel like being at home for us. Firstly, the villa has an excellent location as it can very easily be accessed from the airport (20 mins drive by car), has a nice garden and provides for a very relaxing atmosphere and is at the same time very closely located to the centre of Madeira's capital Funchal (10 mins drive by car, bus connections available). Secondly, the villa provides for three bedroom and a very big combined kitchen / living room (approx 60 sqm) and is so well-equipped that everything is available that you will need if you wish to cook on your own (far beyond our expectations). Thirdly, and most importantly, the onsite manager Joao is a real asset - who very charmingly offers help, assistance and information and you can easily get in touch with him 24/7. Supermarkets, gas station, bus stop, bakery and an excellent take away place are in short distance (10 mins by walk). Joao also took us along to a very nice Levada tour which was suitable to take along our 10months baby. Great place - our warmest recommendation for the villa. The only aspect that was not ideal was the fact that (owed to the March season) the villa was a bit chilly in the mornings (17 degrees) which could be remedied with engaging the three radiators available in the big kitchen/living room.

“It is truly paradise!”

“A lovely base for a lovely holiday”

Reviewed 9 Jan 2014

Villa Firdaus is a lovely property, set in pretty gardens overlooking Funchal. It is spacious, and extremely well fitted out. The kitchen is huge, with plenty of working space for several people to be operating at the same time. Our adult daughter holidayed with us, and we could soon put a substantial meal together. There is a supermarket quite close by, and plenty of shopping opportunities in Funchal, particularly the market, which is a must. There are, of course, plenty of excellent eating places in and around Funchal if cooking is not a holiday must. The property manager lives in the basement area (completely detached) and is a wonderful source of information and suggestions for absolutely anything to do with/in Madeira, and especially for restaurants. We stayed in Villa Firdaus for the Christmas/New Year holiday. Compared to Britain the weather was extremely good - though it started a bit on the cold side, with some rain, it gradually got better and better, until we were having lovely sunny, and very warm days. Our one disappointment was that the property was rather cold in the evenings - but as a compensation most mornings found us having breakfast on the terrace. Christmas morning - smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and champagne - just like home - but sitting in sunshine!

“Fantastic Villa”

Reviewed 19 Nov 2013

We really enjoyed our stay at this fantastic villa. It is located in a very respectful area of Funchal and is just a 20-25 min walk into the city. There is also a very well stocked and reasonably priced supermarket and other convenient stores a five minute walk away. The villa was spotless and had everything we needed. There were only two of us so we had lots of space but it would also comfortably accommodate 6 people. The photos did not show the semi covered patio area which is a shame because this is a nice space and we tended to use this terrace because it get the sun until late lunchtime. The outdoor terrace is a beautiful place to sit and admire the fantastic garden but if you are a sun worshipper be aware that it does not really get the sun because it is shaded by a lovely big tree. If you prefer the shade this is the perfect place to chill out. You cannot really appreciate the real beauty of the garden from the photos. It is stunning and so well looked after and is a real pleasure just to sit and admire. Joao, lives in a small flat below the property and was a truly fantastic host. He is very mindful of respecting guests privacy and keeping himself to himself so we did not feel in the least bit imposed on (I was concerned that it may be a bit of an intrusion having a stranger so close by but it wasn't at all). He has two very friendly dogs in his enclosed garden and a lovely little cat. The cat came to visit us because we encouraged her to do so because we love cats. Again, if you are not very keen on animals Joao is very respectful of this and will keep them under wraps. We became quite friendly with Joao and he accompanied us on a levada walk and took us to some viewpoints and a traditional Portuguese restaurant. It was like having our own personal tour guide and we greatly appreciated his company because he was so informative about the island and there was no chance we would have found any of these places on our own! Highly recommended as a place to enjoy to relax and a base to explore the beautiful island. It is close to the motorway (not too close though) so the road networks are very accessible. Please be aware that the mattresses are in great condition but they are very firm which may not suit everyone!

“Another excellent stay at Villa Firdaus - Excellent Holiday”

Modern well looked after villa and gardens. Peaceful location, supermarkets close by along with restaurants. Joao is extremely helpful, nothing is too much trouble for him. Looking forward to my next trip to Madeira.

“Paradise found”

Reviewed 8 Mar 2013

I stayed in this beautiful villa for 2 weeks in Feb/March.When I arrived I was astounded by the villa ,the gardens and the situation , it is set a 25 minute walk out of Funchal. I frequently walked into the centre but as the return is steeply uphill the bus or taxi was the best choice to return to the villa. I have no hesitation in recommending this delightful villa. I am already planning my next visit in December as I wish to see the renowned Christmas lights. It was a delight to escape the English cold grey gloom for a while. I used to take breakfast on the terrace and plan my day ahead. The island seems to encompass all parts of the world from the tropical flower gardens to the steep mountain landscapes and cascading waterfalls. Highly recommended

“Excellent villa in the suburbs of Funchal”

Reviewed 30 Jan 2013

This villa had every facility we required for a self catering holiday and everything was high quality. The villa is in a suburb of Funchal with easy access to shops and a modestly priced very good restaurant and take away. We enjoyed breakfast and evening drinks either on the covered large balcony or the terrace with views across Funchal to the sea. The manager Joao lives next door and was very helpful.
