From the owner

Private 2-story Guest House has rustic & elegant Old World charm (sleeps 2 couples and kids comfortably) in Vermont's NEK. Beautiful, charming, peaceful. A healing & fun place to let go, unwind, de-stress and relax. The LARGE picture window in the Upstairs Great Room looks out over our West pasture onto changing mountain views, and you can watch the antics of our animals. Free WiFi, Dish HDTVs (downstairs TV has a Blu-ray DVD [Netflix, Amazon Prime+channels, etc.]), some games, cards, jigsaw puzzles, books, stuffed toys for kids, binoculars, crayons/colored pencils, Audubon Nature Guides. Linens are of course included. Both bathrooms (energy efficient toilets) are upstairs: shower (no tub) bathrm is connected to back bedrm, half bathrm is connected to bedrm with full-size bed. Shared washer & dryer in the farm house -- give us your laundry or wet items (no charge).

On cool evenings you can curl up by the pellet stove, catch a Netflix or Amazon Prime movie, surf on your mobile device (WiFi) or fall asleep on the comfy inner-spring mattress futon couch-bed there. Cook up a storm in the downstairs Great Room kitchen (LOTS of spices, you can pick herbs, greens & veggies from the Organic Guest House Garden from late June into late October), use the outside Grill, or go out to one of the many yummy eating places in the area. Gather around the movable fire pit and take in the Milky Way/stars on clear nights. There's also a small wood deck and deck chairs.

1/4 mile away is a near-private area with 2+ ponds and a floating dock -- wonderful water for swimming. The State has added trail info & identifiers, and made the paths very easy to hike. On the way up to the second pond is a Scenic Outlook with great views, loons often summer in the 2nd pond (some beavers can be spotted in Fall). The hiking/exploring through primeval forest land is like a mini-White Mountains hike. Under 2 miles away is the Bread & Puppet Theater with museum, performances & music till late September. Craftsbury is about 1/2 hr+ away, Burke & Kingdom Trails is approx. 1/2 hr+ away and features many great eating places. Lots of farmer's markets in the region. And the best part is just being here in Vermont's beautiful heartland.

During Summer Burke has events (including 4th of July Fireworks, Barbecue, events, more). Kingdom Trails is there, and features World Class Mtn. biking events with lots of varied eateries in the area. Craftbury's events include open air concerts in summer, a great Farmer's Market (live music, crafts, cheeses, farm produce, flowers, baked goods & foods), and Craftsbury's Open Center has well groomed trails for hiking & more. Greensboro's #1 Rated Brewery in the U.S.: Hill Farmstead Brewery, is on the way, too. Many great ponds/lakes nearby and in the area--several have boating/boat launches as well.

In Fall the foliage starts really changing by early October, and then by mid-late October the glowing Yellows come to the forefront -- beautiful! On clear nights the stars are wonderful -- check for when the meteor shower periods are. In Winter the VAST Trail is just up the road, and Burke Mtn.'s great skiing is about 18-22 minutes away (Nordic & Alpine skiing).

Newport /Canada's border is about 35 minutes away (beautiful Lake Memphremagog is in both Canada and U.S., as is the Opera House) -- Stanstead, Sherbrooke & Magog (old-world), and Quebec City are really nice places to explore across the border, as is Montreal. St. Johnsbury offers charm and variety -- museums, eateries, the Catamount Arts Center, Dog Mtn/Dog Chapel & Gallery & trails. 20 minutes away in Greensboro is the #1 Rated Hill Farmstead Brewery, further on is Circus Smirkus and the Highland Arts Center. For great pizza, local brews, & food go to either Parker Pie in W. Glover, or Positive Pie in Hardwick. Many new stores/eateries have come to Hardwick recently, and the food coop is just around the corner. Smoking only outside. We LOVE it when people really enjoy themselves here--that's the best compliment you can give us.

Interaction with guest

Please note: This is not a farm stay--the animals are not to be fed/petted by youngsters, as the donkeys do not always understand where carrots leave off and fingers begin. Marc will give a demo of how to feed carrots to the donkeys, and children are to be supervised when interacting with the animals. For those who think donkeys can be fed with an open palm like horses, the fact is they cannot--they are not like horses and ignoring this reality can get your fingers nipped. No drones are to be flown on our property as the sound terrifies the animals. Dogs are to be kept on leashes on our property until the interaction with the animals has been well established.
