Description from owner

Description

A comfortable, clean, 2-bedroomed house, able to sleep 5, with the sun-terrace looking down on to a wooded rivine. As such, there are no other houses in front of the house to spoil your privacy or view. A very quiet location, with a village like atmosphere.

A very short walk away is the shared pool. Also, shops, supermarkets, restaurants, bars, internet cafes, and the all important banks, are only a few minutes away. Walk, take a 3 minute drive, the land train or the bus to the nearby Carabassi beach, boasting a long, unspoilt stretch of white, dune-backed sand. Away from the beach there is so much to see and do, from golf, tennis, snorkelling, and other water sports, to exploration of the historical sites of the neighbouring areas, and markets, which you can find open at least somewhere nearby every day of the week. Not forgetting the sights and night-life of nearby Alicante.

The Valencian Country region

The weather in Alicante is well known for a very mild climate. The humidity is low and is especially good for sufferers of arthritis. The average temperature even in winter time does not fall below 16 C.
Although Spanish summers are hot, with average temperatures of at least 30 C, the coastal areas enjoy cooling sea breezes that reduce the temperatures to a more comfortable level. The summer brings an average 12 hours of sunshine each day with hardly any rain! Even in autumn, the sea stays warm and temperatures can reach up to 28 C, even in November this will only fall to about 20 C during the day. As the nights lengthen the daily sunshine reduces to an average of 6 hours.

With easy access to Alicante city and the excellent motorway network, there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding areas. Just a 35 minute drive north on the A7 motorway will take you to well known Benidorm with its two beautiful beaches (Playa Levante and Playa Poniente) as well as its infamous nightlife, shops, bars and restaurants. In the hills outside Benidorm are two of Spains best theme and waterparks. Terra Mitica (which is Europes largest theme park) takes the Mediterranean classical civilisations as its theme and features death defying rides as well as spectacular views of Benidorm. Aqua Landia, the water park, has thrilling water rides as well as beautiful gardens.

And if you want to experience the other Spain, venture a little away from the coastal attractions to find the peaceful inland villages of Agost,Tibi, Xixona and Castalla to the north-east of Alicante. You will find twisting scenic routes cutting through spectacular mountain scenery, before descending to some of the region's many unsung treasures.

Then there is Alicante. How about a visit to the beautiful Santa Barbara castle in the morning, a spot of lunch in one of Alicante Old Towns many shady squares, followed by the beach in the afternoon and a leisurely stroll along the promenade and marina in the evening? Sounds tempting? These are just some of the attractions of Alicante itself.

Gran Alacant

Our house at Gran Alacant is in a quiet residential and peaceful location, uniquely situated within a large urbanisation, but with a village feel. And at such a short distance from the airport it’s not long before your holiday can really start. The area is quite cosmopolitan with a mix of several nationalities including Spanish, British, and Scandinavian. The sun terrace looks over a wooded ravine and spectacular sunsets may be enjoy during summer whilst sipping that glass of sangria.

At Gran Alacant you will find all necessary amenities, from some 9 banks, 6 supermarkets, 60 bars and restaurants, serving a large variety of international foods, from tapas to pizzas, salads, Indian and Chinese cuisine, through to internet cafes, opticians and DIY shops, and even a library. There is a petrol station at the entrance to the development. You will find most of what you need just a few minutes walk away. On Thursday, there is also the market to look forward to.

The Carabassi beach, just a few minutes away, is one of the loveliest and safest beaches on the whole of the southern Costa Blanca coastline. It consists of several kilometres of soft white sand backed by dunes, completely unspoilt unlike the beaches of Costa del Sol. You can walk, drive or take a bus down to the beach, spend a day with a picnic or eat in one of the cafes or bars in the nearby resort town of Los Arenales del Sol. With the wonderful views of the sea and Alicante bay from here, beach lovers must put a lazy day at Los Arenales in their itinerary.

Away from the beach, Gran Alacant is surrounded by the Clot de Galvany nature park, declared recently by the Ministry of the Environment, as an area of protected natural beauty. With its conservation centre and lagoon, and adjacent picnic area, it is a popular destination of locals for barbecues and family gatherings. The lagoon attracts a wide variety of birds from waders to birds of prey.

Less than 10 minutes drive south is the small but lively fishing town of Santa Pola, with its vibrant markets, good sporting facilities, some attractive buildings, an attractive park with preserved Roman excavations, aquarium and pavement cafes and excellent fish restaurants. From here you can take a short boat trip to the island of Tabarca, with its crystal clear waters, a place very popular with snorkellers and divers.

The whole area is full of places to visit, from the coast, to the hinterland and the mountains. Too many to mention. However, do include Elche,Guardamar, Novelda, and Orihueila quite close by, and Guadalest, a bit further away, in your itinerary of places to visit.

“Our stay in Babus' apartment Oct 2012”

Reviewed 17 Oct 2012

My wife & daughter stayed in Babu's apartment in October 2012. The apartment is spacious, comfortable and homely. Everything you need for a holiday is provided for in the apartment The view from the balcony is pleasing & Babus has keyholders/support (should you need it) close by though they never bother you.. The location of the property is superb-its within a 2 minute walk of a secure clean pool. The area is quiet, convenient to shops & superb eating places & cafes. We didn't hire a car & local bus services are frequent & reasonably priced. We all had a wonderful time at Babus' place & recommend it if you want a holiday in Gran Alicante & will return again in 2013 Thank you Babu. And thanks to Sue & Nancy!
