12. The Neighborhood- The Culture -The Vibe:
The following information has been compiled for our charter guests from a variety of sources. We hope you find it useful in getting ready for your charter.
What to Expect:
The Boat:
La Vie, is the perfect sized catamaran for a family or 2 couples or the perfect Honeymoon, she is not a huge superyacht but she is very roomy (and no head bumping or toes hanging over beds...)she is like new and much larger than a mono hull (a single hull boat). La Vie is very well equipped her Average Cruising speed is 8 knots, has 2x256 hp Yamar Diesel, AIS (a saftey device to see other boats -automatic identification system), Raymarine Chart Plotters (these help us plan where to go and are like a map), Generator (supplies the power)& plenty more electronics. The crew are happy to teach or show you all aspects of using the boat. On deck, a sailing vessel can be a bit like an obstacle course, with winches, lines, and other fun things to trip over so you need to be quite nimble and prepared for a few bumps here and there.
Accommodations:
Each cabin is “boat sized”, like living in a mini apartment, you have to climb into bed and this adds to your adventure. We provide you with all your linens and towels for your stay, so you can leave room in your bag to shop for trinklets!
In your cabin you have your have your own wardrobe, it is dinky sized and it will fit around 6 shirts & 3 Dresses so please pack light. Best to buy yourself a duffle bag/backpack or soft sided bag on wheels that can be squished into a draw for storage. Large hardcased suitcases will restrict the room you have in your cabin.
Bathrooms Showering aboard sailboats is like camping. Fresh water is a precious commodity aboard a boat. We can only take a limited amount of fresh water with us that must last the duration of your charter. “Navy” showers are the rule – get wet, soap-up, rinse-off. On most charters, the typical place to shower is on-deck. or we just jump in the water get out soap up and jump back in to rinse in the salt water then up on deck to rinse with fresh water.
Once a day you can have the luxury of a 3 minute shower in your ensuite,to pamper yourself
Weather:
The extremely consistent weather conditions in the Tabago Cays are one of the reasons these areas are considered to be one of the best cruising grounds in the world. The trade winds are nearly constant ranging from 10-25 knots, allowing for wonderful sailing. These cooling trade winds also keep it pleasant aboard. The water temperature ranges from 76 to 85. Daytime temperatures rarely drop below 75°F in the winter or rise above 90°F in the summer. Even on a really warm day, if you are in the shade, you are comfortable because of the breeze. The night temperatures vary by only 10 degrees.
A typical forecast on any given day will have scattered clouds and a 30% chance of rain. These showers can happen any time, but are most common in the early morning hours prior to sunrise, and last less than 30 minutes each. An occasional frontal disturbance or tropical wave moving through Grenada/Tabago Cays may make for rainier conditions for a day or two. Hurricane season runs from June through November, but storms and unsavory conditions tend to be rare.
Activities:
The primary activities for your charter will be based from aboard La Vie. These include sailing, swimming, snorkeling, paddle boarding , kayaking, sunbathing, relaxing, reading, napping, eating. Your crew can help arrange for additional activities like diving, parasailing, tours and other excursions depending on the island. The cost of these additional activities is not included in your charter fee.
Itinerary:
The itinerary is based on your preferences of activities.
The Tabago Cays charter offers a tremendous variety of bays and anchorages to visit.
The itinerary will also be flexible to accommodate your schedule and activities. Weather, safety, and other considerations may also affect the itinerary.
It is typically not possible to see everything in one visit. You may need to return again in the future for another charter to see more.
Dining Ashore:
The food aboard is included for 5 evenings of your charter. We encourage you to experience the flavour of the island cuisine at some of the local eateries, soak up the ambiance and culture of the people, your experience could be anything from refined fine dining to a traditional island beach bbq. Grenada is the hub of spices, so if you love spice you will be in paradise
Attire:
Aboard:
Sundress/Shorts/Tee/Swimsuit/Sarong For much of your charter you will either be sailing, at an anchorage, in the water, or going back and forth from a beach or dinghy dock in the dinghy.
Ashore:
Smart Casual you will need to cover up properly when ashore. Beach bar/ restaurants , most establishments do ask that you wear appropriate clothes like shorts with shirts, or sarongs for the women. A few finer restaurants may prefer a collared sports shirt and slacks for the gentlemen.
