Ellerside Cottage sleeps eight guests in four bedrooms and offers the perfect blend of traditional charm and stylish modern conveniences.

Located just four miles from Cartmel (famous for its sticky toffee puddings!), this beautifully presented cottage sits in the Cumbrian village of Cark, within easy reach of both the coast and the Southern Lake District's many attractions.

Recently refurbished, Ellerside Cottage offers a high standard of self-catering throughout with plenty of space for families and groups of friends to relax and unwind in comfort.

Socialise and cook in the kitchen with breakfast bar and seating area to keep the cook company; enjoy a celebratory meal in the grand dining hall; or retire with a night cap to one of the two comfy lounges (both with attractive fireplaces which house a gas fire and log burner respectively).

During the warmer months, guests can enjoy the outside living space where there is plenty of room for children to let off steam, alfresco dine on the sun terrace or simply relax with a good book on the lawn.

Sitting on the outskirts of the Lake District National Park, the cottage provides the benefit of being away from the busier tourist traps, whilst being within driving distance of a wealth of attractions.

The tip of Lake Windermere is only six miles away, with Coniston, Grizedale, Hawkshead, Ambleside and Kendal all within easy reach.

Outdoor activities abound in the Lakes vast outdoor playground. Spend your days climbing mountains, strolling around lake shores, walking the coastline, horse riding, bird watching, mountain biking, sailing, canoeing and hot air ballooning to name just a few.

Or alternatively, enjoy a more sedate Lake Cruise on Windermere; nostalgic trip on the Haverthwaite Steam Railway; wandering around magnificent Holker Hall with its splendid gardens and deer park (just up the road from the cottage); or a day at the Edwardian seaside town of Grange.

There are also stately homes, museums, magnificent gardens and castles to visit where you can discover the inspiration behind the likes of Ruskin, Beatrix Potter and Wordsworth.

Whether you are celebrating a special occasion with friends or having a family holiday, Ellerside Cottage provides a welcoming retreat at any time of the year.

The popular village of Cark is just two miles from the cottage offering a grocery store, artisan bakery and two traditional pubs for a pint of local ale or a meal.

Cartmel is only four miles and offers a wider selection of shops and places for a meal out including L'Enclume restaurant - renowned for its fine dining and Michelin Star (perfect for a special meal out but make sure you pre-book well in advance.

Accommodation comprises:

Ground floor

• Entrance hall with plenty of space for boots, coats etc.

• Grand dining hall with table and ample seating for eight in front of the open fire.

• Well equipped open-plan style kitchen at the heart of the house with everything needed to prepare a light breakfast through to a special banquet. Facilities include a fridge, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, tumble dryer and central island with stools, range style cooker and a ceramic hob (including extractor over). French doors take you outside and there is also an informal dining area which is a great place for light snacks.

• Additional sitting room providing a nice place to escape for a quiet moment with log burning stove.

• Shower room with WC and wash basin.

First floor

• Master bedroom with king-size bed an ample storage for clothes.

Outside

Grounds are extensive and afford lovely views and plenty of space to relax when the sun shines with lawn areas and patio/sun terraces with outdoor furniture for alfresco dining. Off-road parking available for four cars.

Why can't I call Barbara (the owner) before booking?

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I pay the balance of my holiday?

Go to Manage your holiday booking to cancel your booking. Here you can view your cancellation policy to see if you’ll be refunded.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Barbara (the owner) a message.

If Barbara (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
