This lovingly restored, 16th Century stone farmhouse is situated in the heart of Chianti, between Florence and Siena. Its central location means you can explore all that Tuscany has to offer, from the major sites to lesser-known gems with authentic, crowd-free experiences all year round. There’s also walking and cycling routes for those who enjoy exploring the countryside.
Greve-in-Chianti, a quaint small town, is only five minutes away by car. It has shops, cafes, restaurants, a weekly market, a lovely square and the famous Antica Macelleria Falorni for local meat, cheese and wine.
A steep but walkable distance away is the ancient hilltop village of Montefioralle. Dating back to 1085 it has a castle, church, restaurants, cookery school, winery, and events enjoyed by both locals and visitors from March til October. Other medieval hamlets nearby include Badia a Passignano and Panzano. All are well worth a visit.
Chianti is one of the world’s most celebrated wine regions, with September the most intoxicating month for festivals. There are many wine estates and tasting venues to choose from nearby, including two vineyards that are just a short walk away, open for tours and tastings.
It might be hard to tear yourself away from Casalone and its local attractions but with Florence, San Gimignano and Monteriggioni around 40 minutes’ drive away; Siena under an hour; and Montepulciano and Montalcino within 90 minutes, all of the area’s cultural and historical sights are a day trip away from this idyllic Tuscan retreat.
If you book Casalone the entire property, large infinity pool and extensive grounds are exclusively yours during your stay, providing the ultimate in privacy and tranquillity. The house is located at the end of a private road with no through traffic. The garden, terrace and pool are south-facing. On a hill with a slight breeze that helps to keep the mosquitoes away, it’s the ideal place to enjoy uninterrupted views of the scenery that inspired Leonardo da Vinci’s landscape paintings and which has barely changed since medieval times.
Surrounded by vineyards and sitting in 4.5 hectares, we invite you to help yourself to the fresh produce growing here, including olives, grapes, pears, apples, cherries, walnuts, almonds, figs, blackberries and peaches. You’ll even find a bottle of our own olive oil in the kitchen.
The beautiful garden is filled with roses and other plants and flowers, providing a delightful area in which to relax. The pool has fresh water, an outside shower, loungers with cushions, and umbrellas. There's also a pool room providing changing facilities, a fridge, sink and picnic glasses.
For outdoor dining there’s a large terrace with a table and chairs for up to eight people and a large umbrella. There’s also a barbeque and a pizza oven.
The house is spacious inside, with an open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room. Upstairs there are three sizable bedrooms and a generous bathroom. There’s also an area with a sofa bed big enough for two. Downstairs there’s a further shower and a separate toilet. The layout is unusual, so we suggest you study the floor plans supplied in the photos to make sure it’s suitable.
