From the owner

Fell View is a lovely, comfortable home from home in the pretty village of Gunnerside, in Swaledale, the most northerly of the Yorkshire Dales, postcode is DL11 6LE. The cottage is warm and well-equipped, with storage heaters and a multi-fuel stove in the living room (first basket of logs/coal included). The living room leads into a small dining room, and then through to the little kitchen (low lintel over door, take care), with electric cooker, microwave and dishwasher. There is also a downstairs cloakroom. Sorry, personal towels are not included. Free wifi. Week bookings are Friday to Friday.

Upstairs is a spacious master bedroom with kingsize bed, a second double bedroom, a small family bathroom, with shower over the bath (very low ceiling, take care), and third single bedroom, which has a pullout guest bed. The pullout guest bed isn't listed in the key information, as when it is in use, there is no extra floor space, as it's a single bedroom.

The cottage overlooks the village square, and is next to the grassy island with rose arch. The King's Head pub is a stone's throw away, with good food and ales. Many walks direct from the door, including up Gunnerside Ghyll, a lovely walk to the lead mine ruins. There is also a cafe and a tearoom in the village, with local shops nearby at Muker, 3 miles, and Reeth, 6 miles. Supermarkets can be found at Catterick Garrison, 18 miles, Leyburn, 15 miles and Hawes, 11 miles. Week bookings are Friday to Friday, although there may be some flexibility in non-peak weeks. One small dog allowed, strictly not on furniture or upstairs (please use stairgate to ensure dog does not go upstairs).

Lovely cottage but small bathroom.
Sep 2018

Lovely cozy cottage but found the bathroom too small and had difficulty standing under shower. Although clean on surface when we entered we found we had to hoover under sofa seats as there were crisps… More

Response from the owner
Thank-you for your comments. The housekeeper has had an extremely busy three months, so it's just not possible on every changeover to move all the furniture to clean underneath, nor wash bedside table covers. Obviously the owner will make sure this is all done in the quieter times. Thank-you for bringing it to our attention. We believe the description of the cottage does mention the fact that the bathroom is small. Unfortunately, in these traditional old Dales cottages (originally built for lead miners), where there would have originally been no bathroom at all, whoever converted the cottage obviously decided to make do with a small bathroom. Glad the location was appreciated, and the good walking countryside.

Response from the owner
So glad you had a good holiday and enjoyed the cottage. For those with a dog, there are green areas very close by, and also footpaths very close, so a garden not vital. Bed for 6th person is suitable only really for a child, as it's a pullout guest bed in 3rd (sgle) bedroom, so not much floor space left when it's out. Thank-you for leaving the cottage so clean and tidy, much appreciated.

Response from the owner
So glad you had a good holiday at Fell View and thank-you for leaving the cottage so very clean and tidy. Arthur, owner, has had a look at the shower and after 30 mins, it leaked a little, so he's resealing it now. Hopefully fine in future!
