Gorgeous flat on the 1st floor of a private stone building with beautiful sea views at one of the nicest areas in southern Greece! Everything from the restoration to the decoration and furniture, the stunning atrium area, this place is truly what we call unique! A must stay-at property. (airco in master bedroom, ceiling fans in the other two bedrooms)

Gythio was the seaport of Sparta, in ancient Greece. It lies in the South Peloponnese and now forms a picturesque lively little harbor town. Most of its houses are two or three storey neo-classical mansions, stuck to the steep side of Mount Koumaros.

The owner undertook the complete re-building of a two storey semi-detached early 20th century mansion which was built on the turn of the century.Lengthy plans were made to keep its Grade II listed exterior whilst creating a more modern and united feel inside. As the top (North) side was built on a steep slope and the entrance was on the street, creativity had to be taken to new levels to design an outdoor space where light could infiltrate the living areas. A further challenge was the functionality: the owners wanted to create a private space for themselves in the upstairs main family unit where the view faces a picturesque small island, where myth has it Paris famously eloped with Helen of Troy. This allowed it to “play” with the two storey levels. By raising the ceiling it gave the main living area an exposed truss work and roof rafters enhancing the airiness, spaciousness and thus allowing it to create various levels to fit these functional specifications.

The subsequent architectural results were phenomenal. The independent entrance to the main family unit was created in the form of a large entrance living space, including the living room, the dining room, a balcony and a high quality open kitchen and pantry. This open space extends to a surprising 360 degree atrium lying in the middle of the area, viewed and accessed from all areas of the house. This amazing centerpiece not only allows light to be spread throughout the house but can also be used for al-fresco dining and relaxing outdoors whilst compensating the need for any further outdoor garden.

Additionally an independent private suite with its own library space, wooden flooring and private balcony was created on a raised level. An additional two bedrooms were formed on a slightly lowered level, below the suite.

A lot of charm was used to make this home really stand out. A fascinating mix of Italian designer and Greek furniture, Middle Eastern, Brazilian and African artifacts, custom made wooden bookcases, custom made steel shelving, seating and fitted bookcases, amidst world renowned sculptures, ceramics and paintings, turns this blend of worldwide culture into something surprisingly grounded but homely. It seems every corner you turn to tells its own story.

How do damage deposits work?
