The England region

The Stables is less than 1/4 mile outside one of England's greatest assets - the New Forest. In 1079 it was commandeered by William the Conqueror as his "hunting ground". Perfect for a relaxing break or romantic weekend, the Forest is still as stunning as it was then with much of the landscape and many traditions unchanged since medieval times. The World Heritage site of Stonehenge with its ancient stone circles, the medieval cathedral of Salisbury, the Beaulieu Motor Museum, Animal and Bird sanctuaries and many other places of interest all within easy driving distance. Weymouth Bovington Tank Museum and Monkey World are all within an hour's drive from The Stables. Other activities such as golf and Go Ape, the ultimate adventure experience, can be found at Moors Valley Country Park.

South East England

The New Forest National Park has picturesque villages, welcoming inns, and thousands of acres of rugged moor, heath and woodland populated by the famous wild ponies. The magnificent Elizabethan manor house at Breamore, and the home of the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, are unmissable attractions of this beautiful area.

Blashford lakes, located within the Avon Valley on the western edge of the New Forest, is a 490-acre wildlife reserve and is only a short walk from The Stables.

“excellent holiday for my parents!”

Reviewed 2 Aug 2013

I organised this holiday with my sister for our mum & step dad as thought it looked perfect for them. Speaking to them on their return, they both said it was the best holiday they've had in a long time which was brilliant to hear. I had no doubts really as previous reviews reviews were really good & how nice Julie the owner was throughout the whole booking process. My parents loved the area & all the animals onsite which made it all the more enjoyable for them. On how relaxed & happy my parents were after their holiday, I would highly recommend this place to everyone!

“Simply Wonderful”

Just come back from a wonderful three day stay at The Stables. I booked the break as an alternative Xmas present for my wife. She wanted a jumper. So glad I did. The location was as good as you could hope for. 5 minutes walk to the edge of the New Forest. - absolutely brilliant if, like us, you've got a dog with you. There are two pubs within a 30-minute walk and a third (the Old Beams) that looks like a pub but is in actual fact a restaurant. If you want food I'd recommend the Alice Lisle - a little pricey but well worth the extra couple of quid. Julie and Simon were the perfect landlord and landlady. Unobtrusive but always on hand if you need any expert local knowledge. The accommodation itself was well-equipped and really warm All in all a wonderful experience - highly recommended to anyone who fancies a few restful days away. (Edit: given the dreadful weather, I think my wife would quite have liked to have a jumper as well!).

“Lovely settings”

We spent new year at the stables for some peace and quiet and thats exactly what we got. It is in good spot for getting around and near to all the local tourist spots without being hustled and bustled. It was nice that julie and Simon we're really helpful and welcoming but left you alone. Only slight criticism is the bedding quilt thin and I would take your own pillows. Also small table top cooker very slow could do with a microwave in kitchen but these are minor things as the place well equiped clean and in ideal peaceful spot and will definitely stay again. “I want squatters rights!”

I went for a short break with my Boston Terrier. There was everything you could ask for at the Stables. I loved the tranquility of it and the fact it was close to many local pubs and The New Forest itself. It was a fantastic place to chill out after a hard days walking/training. I would thoroughly recommend it.

“Dog heaven - and humans too!”

Reviewed 5 Oct 2012

Our holiday at The Stables was wonderful. The accommodation was even better than we expected - an extremely comfortable bed - and the surroundings were perfect. Julie and her husband are lovely and we could not have asked for better hosts. The immediate area was heaven sent for our dog Jack. Once he got to the forest which was only a short walk he couldn't believe his luck - all that space and no joggers or people riding bikes! We visited as many places as we could in the time we were there and everwhere we went people were so friendly and very dog friendly too. We loved Ringwood (home of the very best Indian meal I have ever eaten) and Lymington and our visit to Bucklers Hard was wonderful. The coast is not far away and we even managed a paddle at Barton on Sea. We shall definitely try to get a booking for next summer and hopefully stay a little longer. Wish we were there now.

“Perfect - exactly what we needed”

I would have to be very picky to find something to criticise. The Old Stables are quiet, warm, comfortable and very clean. Everything in perfect working order and all the key facilities there. We'll be back!
