Kalathas is only 10 km from Chania, which makes it one of the most popular destinations for those who want to pop off from the city center for a quick swim. Here are three relatively small beaches with thin golden sand and shallow crystal clear water,separated from each other by a few rocks. The one in the middle is the larger and most popular one and it is the only one arranged with umbrellas and sunbeds. The southern beach is more beautiful and less crowded, while the last one is at the exit of a small stream and it is usually empty. The most recognizable feature of Kalathas is a small islet which is only 120 m from the beach and you can easily swim to it. Nearby are also many places that you can explore, such as the beach and little Lake of Macherida, the beach of Stavros the place where scenes of cinematographic film ZORBAS with Anthony Queen were taken,the tower of Mouzouras and the monasteries of Tzagarolon and Gouvernetou.

Kalathas is an ideal place for windsurfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, shell collecting,walking and climbing or just relaxing and enjoying a refreshing drink or some of the delicious local specialties that are offered by the beach.A peaceful and quiet settlement, with a wide sandy beach that offers its visitors the chance to enjoy more than anything the sun and the sea.
