This one of a kind stone lodge is located in a secluded location at the very heart of the Sonoma Valley, all 5 bedrooms are large and have a private, ensuite bath. We have a caretaker who lives just down the lane, so you can be assured of superior oversight and assistance. We now have access to a rural event facility or can help you locate a back roads venue of choice.
Overview: The house is 4000 square feet including 4 bedrooms/4 bathrooms in the main house and 1/1 in the nearby guest cottage with its own full kitchen. All 5 bedrooms have ensuite baths. 2 stone fireplaces, professional kitchen, wine bar, chemical free lap pool, waterfall, 8 person spa/hot tub, stone fire-pit with extensive outdoor lounging and dining areas, bocce ball court and dedicated media room. It is situated just off the very center of the Sonoma Valley floor, at the mouth of a granite canyon which becomes Sugar Loaf State Park. The locally quarried stone walls of the first floor are over 1' thick, providing luxurious natural air conditioning. The outdoor splendor merges with the indoors as all the front-facing first floor windows bifold back to open completely. Secluded and picturesque, there are endless views to the forested peaks of the nearby state park. Rustic, country French antiques abound with an easy 'feet up' level of comfort and ease throughout.
Idyllic in the summer, the house is uniquely fabulous in the winter, spring and fall. Rainy, cool days are a delight with friends or family gathering around the massive fireplace and cooking in the vast professional kitchen with its 2 islands, 2 dishwashers and room for 3 to cook simultaneously at the professional Viking range. An adjacent 14 foot wine bar affords temperature controlled refrigeration for optimal wine tasting. When temperatures drop, there is radiant heat (under the limestone flooring) so one is more than comfortable in the high-ceiling, main floor spaces. When the rainy season starts, the nearby creek fills significantly and rushes by to the valley floor. It can sound like Niagara Falls is across the way; truly delightful. There is a bocce court in the side yard and a separate theater room with 70' led screen with surround sound system. The pool is a chemical free lap pool, 12’ wide by 50’ long. The sheets will be line dried in the fresh country air (weather permitting), hand ironed and waiting for you to sleep ever-so deeply in.
There is nothing to compare to gathering in front of a big fire. Often even summer nights are cool enough to allow a blaze. There are 2 stone fireplaces on the first floor. The living room fireplace is right out of the days of yore when stone lodges had oversized fireplaces as the center of the household. A unique feature is the outdoor fire-pit (can also be used for cooking) under 150 foot tall fir trees with adjacent propane or charcoal grills - a fabulous place to gather around a roaring fire as well as to cook or dine. There is firewood on the premises and all the fires will be stacked, ready for your match to set them alight. You can retain our caretaker to rebuild the fires for you daily if desired.
Culinary options galore: We are so fortunate that the renowned chef John Ash and his right hand, Mei Ibach, are managing the culinary program. John Ash is often referred to as the “Father of Wine Country Cuisine”. His namesake restaurant, John Ash & Company, was the firsts culinary marvel of its type when it opened its doors in 1980. Today he is an acclaimed author and much sought after teacher, and consultant. If desired, Mei can add her unique Thai and Indonesian background to her wine country flavors - mingling exotic Malay and Chinese spices. Let Mei or John create the menu of your dreams; whether you want a big outdoor barbecue with a selection from John’s newest cook book, or a 6 course sit down extravaganza with the most exquisite wine pairings the county has to offer. Team building cooking events are very popular group activity to consider.
