This private 4.5 acre organic orchard retreat rests on 650'-750' cliffs above Waipio Valley's black sand beach and looks to the open ocean and rugged coastline. Epic views of the nearly 2000' cliffs on the opposite side of Waipio are expansive. There are 2 more rentals and a caretaker's house on property. Sometimes there are a multitude of waterfalls seen cascading down 1500'-2000' cliffs into the sea. The property has its own 650 foot year-round waterfall seen from the black sand beach below!
Gaze at lush tropical trees, flowers and enjoy short paths through the property. Stunning views face 23 miles of Waipio's cliffs, backed up by undeveloped jungle. Whales jumping and breaching can be seen from the property during the winter/spring. Maui is visible on clear days. The area boasts a perfect climate of just enough rain to keep the streams going and the flowers blooming, cool trades off the ocean, and an average daytime year-round temperature of between 70 and 88 degrees, with cooler nights.
Listen to the peaceful sounds of the Waiulili Stream and its waterfall running through the property and over a 650' cliff. Waipio Lookout is 1/2 mile away.
The longest Black Sand Beach in Hawaiin is in Waipio Valley. Enjoy the beach where you may see wild horses! It is just 1.5 miles by 4 wheel drive car or by sturdy feet down the steep road!

The property is landscaped with a large variety of exotic trees, ferns, orchids, palms, flowering shrubs, nuts and fruits to pick. Vanilla, Cocoa, black Sapote (Chocolate pudding tree), Cashew and Macadamia nut trees are just a few of the recent additions to a multitude of different mature fruit, nut and spice trees. Try our fully mature Hamakua coast Coffee, Mangos, Avocados, Coconuts, Pomelo, Jackfruit, Papaya, Passion fruit, Soursop, Rambutan, Lychee nuts, Starfruit, Brazillian Cherries, Jaboticaba, Cherymoya, Mountain Apples, Cinnamon, Cloves, Miracle berries, a variety of Citrus, Bananas (when in season) and much more grown on the property. Walk out to the grass lawn point on our 650 foot cliff for one of the best views on the island. Short paths on property (for sturdy feet only near gulch or cliff's edge where it might be unstable too).
Getting Around and Area Activities:
If you are able to pull yourself away, Hale Kukui is a great stepping stone to the whole island. Walk or drive to the Waipio Lookout only 1/4 mile away. The famous black Sand beach in Waipio Valley is another mile down a steep winding 25% grade road and the beach is seen from the property. Explore the quaint town of Honoka'a 10 minutes away with its theater, restaurants, grocery store, outdoor farmers market and a hospital/clinic. Hiking, Biking, horseback riding, surfing, camping, and more are all accessible between Kukuihaele, Waipio Valley and Honoka'a. Walk less than a half mile to the Art store in Kukuihaele for island made ice cream and gifts made by local artists. Fishing Charters, Helicopter tours, Hilo, Kona and Volcanoe National Park are easy to access as well!
A $5 fee is included in your rate which makes you a member of the orchard as a visitor for 1 year so your stay complies with our mission to have you enjoy and learn a little about Hawaiian farming on a small scale.
There are geckos inside and outside of the cottages. They are harmless and are considered good luck, they also eat bugs.
