A fully renovated machiya style vacation home with three BRs, island kitchen & dining, tea room and bath tub both facing Japanese garden, and fully equipped with high-tech appliance. 3 min to subway/tram station, 5 min to Kawaramachi / Gion by train, a direct access to Arashiyama and Kinkaku-ji, 13 min taxi from Kyoto station, and 1 min to two supermarkets.

The two-story townhouse consists of a stainless island kitchen in a wide dining area, a living room, a tea room facing a Japanese garden, a spacious entrance hall, an open air wood deck, and a powder/toilet room (with an automatic washer and dryer machine) and a shower/bath room facing the garden on the 1st floor and the master bedroom (either two single beds or a super-king), a tatami room (double), and the center hall (double) on the 2nd floor. The tea room on the 1st floor can be used for a single bedroom if not used for relaxing space to view the small Japanese garden over coffee/tea.

The house is the north part of twin house structure (and independent from the south) and first built in 1930’s as wooden townhouse with its unique twin design at the time. After continuous minor modifications and fixations over several decades since then, the entire building went through its first-time full renovation in 2016 by a collaboration of Kyoto’s top machiya (traditional Kyoto wooden house) renovator and provider HACHISE CO.,LTD. and Kyoto’s entrepreneur architecture, furniture and interior designer FHAMS CO., LTD.

It is so pity that the world has been changed dramatically since then and we are forced to be physically apart from each other. Now in Japan, domestic travelers resumed moving around a bit and I take a couple of them a month but do miss all those coming from outside. But now I do have more time, fortunately during this unhappiness, to make the house a bit cleaner and do a petit renovation so am looking forward to the next chance to welcome your family. Thank you Miriam for the stay AND spending time to write such a detailed and informative comments which should definitely be beneficial to my future guests! Yes, I also didn't feel like we met for the first time but rather felt meeting a friend I had known already. I sometimes felt like this after talking about several topics over months with guests. I enjoyed all prior conversations with you and thought the questions are all useful for me to understand the concerns of those traveling with kids, which in turn I can better serve similar guests in the future. I know that there should be so many questions as I too wanted to ask many when I planned travelling abroad in my life (but there was nobody at the time without AirBnB...). Glad to learn you like the bed - I spent one month for research and end up with the mix of mattress. Looking forward to see your family or your friends sometime in the near future. Didn't know that you cooked wagyu from the supermarket by yourself in the kitchen, great idea to enjoy the beef of the same quality as in restaurants with less budget! Shimpei

Why can't I call Shimpei (the owner) before booking?

You can exchange contact details with the property owner/manager once your booking is confirmed and you’ve paid in full. Paying and communicating only through our platform allows us to ensure that your booking is covered by our Payment Protection policy.

If you have any questions before booking, you can send the property owner/manager a message via the contact form on their listing. Once you’ve booked, you can discuss the rental and make arrangements for your trip by logging into Manage my booking.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I pay the balance of my holiday?

You can pay the remaining balance of your holiday at any point. Simply go to Manage my holiday booking and click Pay now.

How can I retract my booking request?

You’ll need to contact Shimpei (the owner) to do this. Send them a message in Manage your holiday booking or through the contact form on this page.

How do I cancel my booking?

Go to Manage your holiday booking to cancel your booking. Here you can view your cancellation policy to see if you’ll be refunded.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Shimpei (the owner) a message.

If Shimpei (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
