Why come to our house in the Haute Vienne for your holiday?
Let me count the reasons........the space to start with, both inside the house and outside.
Inside the original single storey house there is a beautiful, large and sunny kitchen with a big oak table and chairs, providing plenty of space and we can also provide a high chair if needed. There is a movable work station which can be pushed to one side to increase the space, cupboards full of china....(Limoges porcelain of course!!) and glassware, cooking utensils, pots and pans. The cosy lounge has two large sofas, a chest coffee table full of board games and jigsaw puzzles. There is satellite tv, a DVD player with a selection of DVDs. The room is also furnished with a large bookcase containing a lifetimes collection of books and various little interesting bits and pieces of furniture we have picked up over the years. There is oil fired central heating for the cooler months, we ask an extra charge of 10€ a day for the use of this. Outside the lounge you will find the sheltered and graveled front garden, here is the stone built BBQ and a picnic table, ideal for evening BBQs as the walls give back the warmth they have taken in throughout the day.
Through the kitchen door, the stairs lead up to the three bedrooms, all of a good size and all supplied with fresh white bed linen for your stay. One superking size bed, one "trés chic" french style double and a third twin bedded room.
La Grenouille Verte is a spacious and comfortable house with bundles of character and charm it is nestled in the small hamlet of Vimpère, which has approximately twenty houses, it is the perfect escape for those seeking peace and tranquility and a chance to recharge their batteries, the roads are quiet and almost empty and sitting in the garden listening to the birds sing is wonderful. See if you can spot the woodpecker or jay or even perhaps the illusive hoopoe!
In the large garden you will find an above ground pool for your private use, with decked terrace, sun loungers and a large parasol. There is a terrace with adirondack chairs under the plum tree, overlooking the pond where the frogs sing and the swallows dive down to drink. There is a badminton net and a swingball set plus boules to keep you occupied on those competitive evenings after a strenuous day by the pool!
Away from the cottage, we are in the heart of the Perigord/Limousin Natural Park with hundreds of acres of woodland, literally thousands of lakes and many marked walking paths. We are also on the route of Richard the Lionheart, King of England and Duke of Aquitaine. There are many chateaux to see, including the one where he may have died, Chateau de Montbrun, just 5kms away which has been restored by the current Dutch owner to a very high standard.
This is the ideal holiday home for couples, young families, families with teenagers, walkers, cyclists. For history lovers there is the village of the martyrs at Oradour sur Glane, Roman villa at Chassenon and the pre-historic cave paintings at Lascaux. So whatever your interest we are sure you will find it here.
If BBQs are not for you and you really don't want to spend your holiday in the kitchen, we can provide a freshly cooked meal for any day of your holiday, perhaps you could order one for the evening you arrive and not have to bother with shopping or cooking after your journey! We provide a selection of menus for you to choose from. We hope you will find they are good value as well as delicious!
