Named after its pale ochre walls and informal atmosphere, the Sand Castle is a spacious ground floor apartment. Three bedrooms are arranged around a central living room and an open dining room. A small courtyard shaded by an acacia tree funnels in plenty of breeze and on the front side there is a garden pergola. The kitchen is beyond the courtyard.
The Sand Castle has one twin and two doubles (all ensuite) and is available either on a self-catering basis or as separate rooms.
Behind us are the sand dunes covered in greenery and full of birds and monkeys.
To get to the beach you have a five minute walk through the village past all the traditional local shops and their friendly owners or there is a spectacular 15 minute walk out of our front entrance and over the dunes. We do it at sun rise every day and it refreshes the soul. I also give a daily afternoon one hour yoga class open to all costing $5.
The rooms and suites all come with a terrace and Swahili-style furnishings. Each en-suite bathroom includes a shower and complimentary toiletries.
Guests can enjoy an inclusive breakfast in the dining room. The restaurant serves a variety of Italian and Swahili cuisine. Guests can also relax with a massage or treatment in the therapy room.
Fatumas Tower is located 40 minutes' walk from Lamu's town centre. Manda Airport is 3 km away, and the Takwa Prehistoric Ruins are 10 km away.
